Why is Sugar Ray Robinson not mentioned among the greatest chins in history?

When it comes to boxers with the greatest chins, the list usually includes Jake Lamotta, Muhammad Ali, George Chuvalo, Carmen Basilio etc. But why does nobody mention Sugar Ray Robinson? Robinson was never knocked out or stopped in his career, not even when he was old and washed up. He lost 19 fights in all and 18 by decision. His only loss that was not on points came in 1952 when he was fighting Joey Maxim north of his more successful middleweight division. And what is more, he was even leading the fight before he collapsed due to the heat after the 13th round. Remember, SRR fought 201 fights. Even if we consider the one loss as a knockout, his knockout loss percentage is 0.5%!

So is it time we give SRR's chin it's due?

I think in most fans minds it goes without saying.
I mean over 200 pro fights against the type
competition he faced, stopped only once.
And that was due to heat exhaustion.

It’s a shame he wasn’t able to make it to the final bell. He was ahead on the cards against maxim and had he won, he would have captured the light heavyweight title. Imagine what his resume would look like then.

because he has been knocked around a bit (in 200+ fights) and his other qualities are so outstanding they tend to outshine his "mundane" talents. he had a great chin.

Probably because he didn't have a great chin? He was never "stopped" because of the level of opposition he faced. He wasn't fighting world class skilled punches like Tommy Hearns, Julian Jackson, Marvin Hagler ect. He was facing slow unskilled guys like Jake Lamotta who weren't klnown for having a hard punch.

Aww did I hurt your wittle feelings little kid? Grow up. Either learn about boxing or stop pretending to a fan. I guess you heard Bert Sugar tell you Ray Robinson was great so you believe it right? My point stands and is valid. Robinson fought tomato cans while for the most part ducking black talent. He looked good because of the opposition he faced. Robinson wasn't facing world class black, Hispanic, Latino opponents. he was facing slow plodding white opponents.

I'll never understand why so many boxing fans are obsessed with race.

Though it's certainly news to me that Kid Gavilan and Randy Turpin were slow plodding and white.
