Vic, do you feel that it has to do with the temperament of the people down there? Brazilians are known as very laid back, and I'm wondering if that's one of the reason there are very few boxers from Brazil.

I think you are generalising there. There are many hot headed Brazilians and many laid back. Just the person IMO.

I follow MMA too and I remember that night...not too many people I know watched the event....that´s why I think this number is highly exaggerated..

Nah haha...there isn´t a boxing culture here, it´s that simple.....like I said, very few gyms, very few gyms that seriously teach boxing! You have a couple of good ones in some big cities but that´s all.....we lack good trainers too.....in comparison with other countries our trainers are not good (there are good ones..but not enough)...

Vic I am assuming you do not know millions of your fellow countrymen and I provided you a source. Google others and you will find that they reported the same number. Even TUF pulls in 10m viewers regularly. Again numbers isn't my point, it was that I disagreed with the statement that it was not popular in Brazil.

Okay, I just don´t see people talking about MMA that often.....really, I have no reason to lie.

They have great amateurs. But they are not turning pro for some reason.

They became obsessed with a homo oriented martial art called Ju Jitsu. They rather watch two homos wearing panties, rolling and making love together in the octagon rather than watch two warriors beating each other in the boxing ring.

For what little it's worth, my experience there was the same. I was there about 4 months, around 7-8 years ago and thought MMA would be a huge deal. Nobody I talked to was really into it though. There's a subculture of "pit boys" who love MMA. But most people just know the big stars because they are Brazilians who've done great things in a sport. It's similar to the way we know Lance Armstrong, Michael Phelps or Venus Williams, even though few really follow those sports. Popo was the same deal.
