Why is there so much controversy over Canelo?

I think you need better quality of friends if you name Margacheato and Randall Tex Cobb as your mates.

We have been watching him on PPV undercards since 2010 and have been hearing about him being the next superstar since before that. People dont like the "silver spoon" treatment. Mostly, though, its because many of those people have been rooting against him and incorrectly predicting him to lose. He rose to heights greater than he was billed to do back well over a decade ago.

The truth is, and it makes sense, that the majority will be rooting against the guy on top of the pyramid.

Edit: And he has probably beaten some of their favorite fighters (like Danny Garcia, disproportionately hated on here, had).

The fact is that he won the WBC Title at 155 which he had to do to fight Cotto. So he had never fought at the Full MW limit before. It would have been foolish to rush into the GGG fight before being acclimated to the MW limit first. You can cry about how he ducked GGG initially by vacating the title all you want, if that makes you feel better, but the fact is that he stepped up to fight GGG the very next year, and he became a two-time Champion at that weight when he beat GGG. It may have been a mistake to fight GGG when you wanted him to without fighting a full fledged Middleweight first. There's no shame in moving up in weight properly and taking your time before fighting the Champ of the division.

You say you know so much about boxing but you don't even know the difference between JMW and MW?
Oh really, is that so? Is that what you hang your hat on? Guess what CJ he outboxed him the first time, made him look foolish with all that head movement and ropes skills and he outslugged him and beat him down in the rematch. Canelo turned GGG from an unstoppable monster into a sissy weak jabber by the time he was through with him. GGG was so demoralized after the rematch he left the ring in shame after refusing to give an interview. It was glorious.
That's a blatant lie. You just make stuff up don't you? No need to exaggerate CJ, just tell it like it is.
You know it was meat contamination but you continue with this fairy tale. Just face it CJ, you've been wrong all along about Canelo. He's P4P #1 for a reason. It's about time you recognize greatness and the king of Boxing, the sport you love. Canelo is your king CJ, now bow down to him.

He is hated by many which is fair enough but there are a lot of hypocrites who also can't accept the fact that most top level fighters are juicing and have been for a very long time. They only like to point it out when it is someone they dislike.

Casimero/Rigo was a bad fight to watch. Watch Rigo /Doaire. Donaire was P4P and Rigo took him apart. Canelo gets hate because he supposedly stacks the deck in his favor. Gives opponents short camps, catchweights, rehydration clauses etc. Throw in the PED's and you have generated some hate. Plus the Golovkin fights really made fans hate his guts.

Well, I've never claimed to be able to appreciate the nuanced art of boxing, There are entertaining aspects of the sport that has kept me interested to find out more and subsequently look for more fights to better understand the sport but hey if you feel the need to gatekeep someone whos looking to learn, that's on you.

I can only speak for myself here.

Canelo consistently gets cards in his favor, often one of the judge cards are wide. For example the Trout fight, the open scoring highlights how Trout had no chance through an otherwise decent fight, with one judge scoring the bout 118-109.
Against Mayweather one judge had it 114-114, which is absurd, there's a better argument for 12-0 in Mayweather's favor.
Versus Lara he got a 117-111, a fight many had him losing, myself included.
Cotto he got a 119-109. A fight he won, but not that wide.
Then we get to Golovkin, 118-110 in a fight GGG should have won 8-4, and gifted a win in the second.

Around these fights are knockout wins, or correctly scored bouts. If the final bell rings, he wins, and that should have more to do with his ability than it does.

He tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, blamed it on contaminated beef citing it as a big problem in Mexico. The guy making millions, about to make millions more, being trained by a former butcher ate contaminated meat. Right, sure.

Won the middleweight title at 155, and refused to fight GGG unless it was at 155, when asked about fighting GGG says, "Mexicans don't **** around". He proceeds to **** around, ultimately dropping the belt to not fight GGG. He does eventually face GGG, see above regarding judge cards.

After all the catchweights, as he fought at 155 a number of times and then 164 vs Chavez Jr. (right before fighting GGG at 160 despite what his fans say) he started pushing rehydration clauses. Notably against Kovalev, Canelo scheduled a fight shortly after Kovalev was almost knocked out by Yarde, an unproven fighter who has done nothing since, with a rehydration clause that was revealed to the public shortly before the scheduled date.

Oh, he also seems to take great offence to the insult mother****er, seeming to take it literally but he slings it around constantly. Just a weird thing.

His legion of fans making excuses for everything don't help.

Your points are noted including that you have a bias against Canelo. Whatever anyone says he beat Lil G sleek style and then Mexican style. It’s not his fault if you disagree with how the judges score his fights since he is not the one scoring as a judge. The contaminated meat Clenbuterol stain is something that will taint him for everything him.
