I really like the guy-i think he's a great boxer and the best at 168 atm-everyone seems to be writing him off because of his loss to JC!?!?!i mean come on! So his return fight was against a highly ranked undefeated tough fighter and he gets hate for that?how many fighters after their first defeat actually get in the ring with a solid good fighter?most would chose a tune up with a journey man type then he gets **** for the Haussler fight coming up-the guy is his mandatory-he tried like hell to get out of it but couldn't-so he's just getting on with the job-after all this stuff is out of the way he should get some big fights against big names
I wasn't aware of any 'hate' for him really; maybe because you're a big fan you focus in on the odd off the cuff comment now and then. however, interest in Kessler has definitely fallen off a lot - he didnt come out of the Miranda saga lookin good a all to most nuetral observers.
because he is on a milk run with his title and knocked back USA TV dates against fighters who are a threat to him not german fighters he could beat in his sleep, The title means zero now, the world knows he is a top 2to 3 168 fighter and showtime and HBO, will put up big money for him to fight top guys and he took the milk run instead.
Who is this "tough guy" he beat in his return fight? I must have missed it. What was the line for the fight?
That's a word that has been cheapened by being tossed around so casually, imo. The reason that Kessler may not be as highly thought of as he was immediately following his great performance against Calzaghe, is that he appears maybe to have ducked Miranda. How's that?
There isn't really much hate for Kessler. Of course theres the neverending Calzaghe vs Pavlik battle where Pav fans discredit Kessler and Joe fans discredit Taylor etc. Thats about the only anti-Kessler crap i see.
"Why is there so much hate for Kessler?" Quite easy: - he is a european fighter - he fights in europe - he is NOT american or british Kessler simply is the second best in his division (after Joe), and beat decent opposition. Then, after a relatively long raign he lost to Calzaghe wich everybody did who tried. I don´t know IF he really "ducked" Miranda, but coming of my first loss I didn´t want to fight Miranda. Besides that I thing he would have easily blown him away. Kessler is no "eurobum", no "coward" or what ever names he was given here but one of the best SMW of the last 15-20 years.
That happens a lot in boxing, one guy gets a loss(even if it's the first) and it's all over for him. All of that changes when a good win comes later.
I really like Kessler and I'm a big Pavlik fan. I thought Mikkel handled himself very well in the early going of the Calzaghe fight and towards the middle rounds it seemed like something wasn't right with him, but he continued to battle on. I'd really like to see him continue to step up the level of competition, perhaps Jermain Taylor? Hopefully we get to see more of him here in the US in the near future and ultimately I'd prefer to see Pavlik take on Kessler rather than Abraham. I just havent seen A. Abraham fight enough to get excited about him, but hopefully that changes as well.
I totally agree. That's what makes it seem kinda' weird to me that Kessler didn't take that fight. :huh Wouldn't he have made a pile of cash from that fight or at least greatly improved his chances at getting his hands on said pile via some other high profile matchup? And what's this about a breakdown? Is that true? Did he take a trip to the booby-hatchery?
The only hate I've ever heard directed towards Kessler is that he backed out of the Miranda fight....can't blame him in a way cause he got a title shot instead against a weaker opponent instead of fighting a dangerous puncher like Miranda for no title. I will start hating him if he pulls a Felix Sturm and holds the title hostage over in Denmark or wherever the hell he's from.
the guy has a lot of support in this forum. in fact, i'd say that most calzaghe calzaghe fans on here, more often than not, are also kessler fans. the hate i see on kessler is more directed towards his handlers. they've basically wasted a year of his prime. his name also gets dragged into the aformentioned pavlik - calzaghe wars on here.
