Yeah, I saw it. I think I've seen every mildly exciting fight the heavyweight division has been able to throw up. Some were great (Lyak vs Brewster) but too many have been one-sided and dull.

Take the top ten HW fights of the last ten years and compare them to the top ten fights of the previous ten years and see the difference. That's my main problem with the division nowadays. Lack of excitement.

Boxing is in the entertainment business after all, and I've been thoroughly unentertained by the last few years.

The division is not lacking in talent, but the current lull in maintream popularity is due to, at least in my opinion, the fact that the divsion was so popular during the Tyson era that it had to die down for a while.

And its mainstream populairty would have naturally died down for a while, no matter who is the current king of the hill.

The popularity of public interest activities, like some sports. sometimes goes in cycles, and the division will rise to the Tyson Ali type mainstream popularity again in time.

Tons of exciting fights during the 90s, even a few during the early part of 2000. How many of late?

A near KO means you rocked someone with clean punching! That dose matter when scoring! Who taught you hot to score Ray Charles?

Huck,a CW in his HW debut had Povetkin gassed and rocked for haf of the fight. Huck pressed the action all night. Huck won according to Dan Rafael and many sports writers. Only recently has this fight become "competitive." the day after the fight this very board was crying "robbery." And dont even mention compubox numbers because they have been deemed unreliable countless times. Compubox is just a guy pushing buttons when he thinks a punch scored.

Atlas assessed his showing after. "He looked horrible," he said of the "winner," who was gulping for air from round four on. He said the ref Luis Pabon, who broke the boxers when they got close to each other, helped Povetkin immensely.

You need to watch some of Holyfield's fights when he was at his peak, awesome stuff.

Late 80's was the weakest era of HW boxing. By far.

Yes, and this sums up the entire question: Tyson and ali are just more publicized/contorversial/apparent, hence peoples knows them (?) more and when asked about who is stronger etc. they say "herrrrrr........ ali!".

JMM was a decent cruiser once upon a time. At heavyweight he was terrible.

Wach and Pianeta might be good or they might not be. I just know I've never seen a challenger who was slower and more cumbersome looking than Wach in a long, long time.

If the division was in any way decent, these guys would have already fought each other before challenging for the belts. Holmes fought sucky contenders and inexperienced guys as well, but at least he had a choice of doing so. Today we're in a situation where these guys are the best that are available. There's hardly anything bright on the horizon. Wilder and Boytsov are afraid to step it up, Price just got discounted, Mitchell's on the sidelines, only Pulev and Fury have a hope of making for halfway competitive fights with the champs in the near future.

You hit the nail on the head. Too many beelines for the Klits, not enough jostling for competition. This is a problem across the board. Klits need to stop entertaining such nonsense, fighters need to get in shape and earn their bread, sanctioning orgs need to enforce competitive match ups and stop artificially inflating rankings, and greedy promoters need to stop feeding their prospects easy touches in hope of a big money pay out at the end of the line.

Because writing or saying "the heavyweight division is at its all time worst" makes you sound knowledgeable and cool so much that "the heavyweight division is at its all time worst" has been written/ said continously ever since heavyweights got arrested and sued for beating up boxing writers. Basically "the weakest era of HW boxing" is something the weakest minds in boxing fandom say.

Because the division is dominated by two white guys who aren't American and don't fight on American cable.

That's the lame ass flip side of the "all the yanks are in NFL" coin.

Same thing happened to Lennox until he beat Holyfield & Tyson only then he was finally accepted in the public's esteem.
