It is not clear yet if Vargas, 18-0(9) will still fight on the big card at The MGM Grand, against a late replacement. Gomez will no doubt be hugely upset at not having the chance to appear on such a massive bill. Fans too will be disappointed with this news, seeing as 22-year-old Vargas was to have taken on the toughest test thus far in his promising career. If no replacement foe can be found for Vargas (and there isn’t too much time; just eleven days until fight night) and if no other late replace bout is brought in instead, the “Ring Kings” under-card will comprise of just two fights: Canelo-Shane Mosley and Deandre Latimore-Carlos Quintana. Vargas-Gomez was no big fight, yet to some fans this would have been the most competitive, exciting bout aside from the main event of Mayweather-Cotto. Will Pay-per-View buys be affected if the May 5th event goes down with just a couple of under-card fights? At $59.00 or thereabouts, the card is no cheap deal by any means. Let’s see if Oscar De La Hoya and co can come up with another bout so as to give fans more value for their hard earned money.
I associate Forbes with Mayweather more than i do Vargas (i.e. he trained with them for most of his career). Jessie is below average no matter who promotes him. Nothing to do with Floyd.
This thread was posted up like 2 hours ago.... Gomez would have been a tougher fight imo. But forbes is still solid opposition, experienced and still has fast hands. Its not a bad fight by any means. Just a shame Gomez had to pull out.
In my opinion Forbes is a far stiffer test, will be a decent win for for Vargas if he can pull it off.
