Yep your right. It' amazing how some so called Klit fans where crucifying Lewis for delaying his decision to retire yet happily forgive Vitali for not fighting for a period which will be at least twice as long.

  2. That belt is being held hostage and will be until next year

The only thing that might bring Vitali back into the ring is if he needs to raise some campaign funds.

if he doesnt fight until "early" next year....and if he hasnt fought in a year...we still have a lot of wasted time sitting on the belt

    sept (not fighting)
    oct (not fighting)
    nov (not fighting)
    dec (not fighting)
    jan (doubltful)
    feb (maybe)
    march (maybe)

worst case its gonna be a half of year before he fights again...not cool by the WBC to allow this...they have stripped champions before in half the time

I'm sure Andre Ward must be happy for Vitali.

I've noticed the WBC cannot outright strip a champion if he holds another belt (like Ward did and Garcia, Alvarez, and Mayweather do), but they seemed to jump at finally stripping Ward due to his inactivity (and maybe a little incentive with GB and Haymon having a pair of fighters looking to fight for the vacant title).

They Striped Sergio Martinez not long ago and had an "interim" champ become "full champ" :rofl
    below is laughable

The WBC made some news today when they announced that they were making Sergio Martinez their "meritus champion" and installing Seb Zbik the new middleweight champ. Here is the release they sent out; it sort of sounds like it was crafted by the talented Mr. Luntz.

    WBC MIDDLEWEIGHT DIVISION UPDATE

The WBC is proud to announce the appointment of Sergio Martinez as Emeritus Champion.

Sergio Martinez is a two-time world champion, as he conquered the WBC super welterweight championship and then defeated great champion Kelly Pavlik to conquer the WBC middleweight championship.

He then defeated Paul Williams with a dramatic “Knockout of the Year.”

Sergio Martinez is a true example for the youth outside the ring and is constantly active in the WBC Cares Program, visiting children’s hospitals, underprivileged children’s housing, and has a formal company in support of abused women making him a true influence all around the world.

With Sergio Martinez’ designation as Emeritus Champion and Ambassador of Good Will and Peace, WBC interim champion Sebastian Zbik of Germany becomes the WBC world middleweight champion and must face the mandatory contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

I asked someone associated with the WBC to clarify what this all means.

"Emeritus" means that he can come back and challenge for the title whenever he wants to, but he is no longer champion," I was told.

If I recall isn't it possible to sue the WBC and Vitali for failure to fight his mandatory defense and force them to either sanction a match or strip the title from Vitali?
I know Vitali attempted this before Kirk Johnson was injured and he was given 10days notice as a replacement for the JUne 30, 2003 match
Then I believe Vitali did something similiar to force lewis to either retire of fight him in a rematch (vitali was no-longer a mandatory defense as he had just lost and would have been moved down in the rankings) as a result Lewis retired and we were able to see the bludgeoning that was Vitali vs Kirk Johnson.
Stiverne needs to get a lawyer and sue these scum bags to force their grimy hands

Klitschko files suit against World Boxing Council
    Associated Press

LAS VEGAS -- Heavyweight contender Vitali Klitschko filed suit Thursday against the World Boxing Council in an effort to force Lennox Lewis to let him fight for the heavyweight title.

Klitschko's suit claims the WBC is violating its own rules by refusing to order Lewis, the WBC champion, to fight him.

Klitschko, the WBC's No. 1-ranked contender, claims in the lawsuit that Lewis has to fight him by June 8 if the WBC rules for mandatory title defenses are followed.

Lewis had been negotiating a fight with Klitschko, but dropped plans for the bout last month and announced that he would likely fight a rematch against Mike Tyson in June instead.

The Lewis-Tyson fight is dependent on how Tyson looks Saturday night against Clifford Etienne.

Attorneys for Klitschko filed the suit in federal court in Las Vegas, asking for damages and for an injunction that would force Lewis to negotiate a fight. No court date was immediately set.

Under WBC rules, champions must defend against the top-ranked or most worthy opponent at least once a year.

Klitschko is the brother of Wladimir Klitschko, who holds the fringe WBO version of the heavyweight title. The brothers are from the Ukraine but now live in Germany, where they are hugely popular

Who exactly is defending Vitali on sitting on the belt so long??? You're talking out of your backside.

People crucify Lewis over his decision because he promised Vitali a rematch, sat on the sidelines 6 months until Vitali's eye healed and fought Kirk Johnson. When Vitali steamrolled thru Johnson and was ready for his rematch, Lewis quickly decided to run off into retirement at 38 years old.

They are two completely different scenarios, and neither one is good for boxing or the fans.

I'm with the majority here, Vitali needs to defend against Stiverne or vacate and officially retire for good, quit jerking people around for his own benefit.

Vitali along with Don Jose Sulaiman have said Vitali will defend against Stiverne by March of next year. Not sure why people continue to ignore this.

Fine. Great. Vitali fights Stiverne by March of next year. That's still over a years inactivity. It's still over a year since the last WBC Title fight and still over two years since the last WBC Mandatory defense. That should not be acceptable. The WBC need to arrange an interim fight at the very least otherwise their whole heavyweight scene gets put on hold because their champion wont or cant defend his title.

Vitali has Sulaiman in his pocket, he has for years, this is pretty clear. The WBC making exceptions and showing favoritism doesn't make this right. Vitali should have been in the ring by now.

by March 2014 it will have been 2 and a half years since his mandatory WBC defense against Adamek. if they are waiting for "nipples" to get the WBC #1 contendor status they will be waiting a long time as Cristobal will never be able to beat Stiverne. This was quite evident when they fought in the WBC last eliminator. And since when does Suliman care about a boxers political aspirations. He sure as hell didn't give a Fux when Ali was dumped as champ for his POLITICAL CHOICE not to go to Vietnam did he
