: Why is Vitali's long lay-off not so significant in this case?

i feel for peter because it is a no win situation but maybe wlad will start crying and the rematch will take place
vitali will say to wlad : wlad remember when i KOed sanders after he kicked your ass, i think its time you return the favor

Because he is Vitali Klitschko... that's why.

This should be an easy victory for Vitali, probably by 3 round TKO/KO. The pressure IS though squarely on him, as the nearly 2-1 favorite. Make no bones about it, Samuel Peter is the big underdog here. Vitali is SUPPOSED TO WIN.

It's very significant... but Peter's speed and skill level is significant too...

Was Vitali at his peak better than Wlad is now?

Basically if things were black and white, thats how it would be. However at the end of the day we all know that the result is one thing, and how the fight plays out is another. So you can't really characterise before the fight how an outcome will affect your perception since there are limitless ways the fight could play out.

Yeah, but for some reason, fans are very devided and black-and-white about this fight and the consequences of a result or another.

Vitali seemed to be a real unbeatable mountain of a man until he quit on Byrd. He has great boxing ability and he can finish the job... Wladimir really made it all based on spectacular, much more show-related punching ability. So they're not really comparable because they're so different. Just that Vitali has avenged Wladimir against Purity and Sanders and Wladimir avenged Vitali against Byrd. That's just about it.

Wlad himself was better a few years back than he's now... Steward limited his arsenal to a f*cking jabbing borefest with 1 right hand per round.

On the skill level, Wlad was always better, but Vitali was always the more focused, better chinned and IMO the harder puncher. Vitali is much more capable to win vs. any kind of competition than Wladimir, who always have to be super careful because of his chin and stamina issues.

Better in what sense? Skills wise, No, mental toughness, yes. If Vitali of 04 fought the 08 version of Wlad, I would probably bet everything I own on Vitali, barring a cut, I dont see no way of Wlad beating a prime Vitali. Wlad is not tough enough, he doesnt know how to react when things get tough, and believe me, Vitali would make the fight hell for Wlad. Prime for prime, Vitali beats Wlad 95 times out of 100.

What ever happened to Wlad's right hook? That was one of his better punches and he almost never uses it. He doesn't even fight on the inside anymore either.

If Vitali beat Peter and decided to continue fighting and managed to agree with his brother to fight each other, would this be the best fight that could be made in the HW division?

It would be interesting, and probably draw more non fight fans than any other fight that could be made in the Heavyweight division currently, I could already see ESPN and other sports channels talking about, maybe even CNN type programs would feature it as well, all in all the fight would huge. Though the fight itself would be boring and probably would end in decision, I much rather see Valuev/Wlad or Vitali/Valuev.
