Cotto Margarito did well. Canelo Cotto should do well, Chavez Jr can't sell ppv's, and when Cotto and Canelo fought as headliners on their own cards...neither sold.

There is no set amount. Anything over 500,000 ppvs being sold is good. It wasn't that long ago that 350,000 ppvs were good numbers.

Once you fight on ppv, in a superfight...usually you have an audience that will pay to see you fight. When you're a ppv regular, then you can sell fights. I wish that it wasn't like this, but in the ppv world, that's how I perceive a fighter and their worth.

Cotto went from fighting on TV to ppv, to TV and back to ppv. I just want to see the fight on TV and I'll watch free TV or pay. But when it's being used in the defense of a fighter...that's when I intervene with bone chilling logic!

Then we only have a few fighters who can sell and those are floyd, canelo, pac, cotto, maybe chavez , that's it.

I'd prefer we had zero. PPV needs to die.

Because he's boring? If you're boring like Floyd you got to talk **** and pretend you're going to kick someone's ass in the ring, even if in the end, like Floyd, you just want to run around and hug.

Ward is taking a page from the Floyd Mayweather book of knowledge. Don't get ko'd by a Torrecampo or Singsurat, and don't get knocked unconscious. Many of Pac's fans have jumped over to the GG bandwagon, and it's a disgrace that they've put all of their stock into GG AN...when it fits Kovalev. It's actually funny to me, right deformity? Lol...

Because right when he was getting his career on two feet, instead of taking off running, he shot it in both legs. Seriously, he would be a pay per view star right now if he hadn't fought with Goosen and sat out the last couple years. He flushed millions of dollars down the drain because he couldn't stand to share it with his promoters.

He doesn't need to be one...just look at GG and his failed ppv. Just fight the best, and he will be ok win or lose.

15 years ago, that'd have been an option.

Now, HBO can't afford to have the best fight the best routinely because their budget is 1/3 what it used to be. Not an exaggeration. Around the turn of the century and early 2000's, it wasn't unheard of for them to sport a $100 million fight budget.

It's in the lower 30's now.

They rely on fights that would've been on regular HBO before (of which GGG-Lemieux is one) being subsidized by PPV. That means the fans pick up more of the purse expense make fights happen on PPV that would've been regular HBO fights before. Roc is going to need to eat more of Ward's $2 million guaranteed minimum purse in order for HBO to afford good competition for him, because without it, 3 decent Ward fights eats up over a quarter of the annual budget once the other guy gets paid.

That's why you see guys like GGG and Kovalev being more active on the network- they work cheap compared to what a U.S. homegrown fighter costs while still delivering ratings, and the dates have to get filled. Roman Gonzalez is another godsend for them, because little guys cost less, too.

So, ultimately, both HBO and Roc are going to want to develop Ward into a PPV fighter for their own business interests. It doesn't matter if he makes them a ton of cash. As long as he produces breakeven numbers, that's money in their budget they can allocate to other regular HBO fights, and they'll let the fans foot the bill on Andre.
