Joe was different.. He outclassed guys and yet he didn't look like a tough guy just by looking at him. People want to see a Tyson looking guy to think he is dominant, and Joe looked like a guy you would see at the store.. The look didn't fit the greatness.

Seriously? Are you a teenager? Because if you are I forgive your behaviour, why would it bother me? Do you live in a world where the only thing that matters is this forum? Haha, this is unreal, please tell me you're joking, both of you, it's getting silly, although, for the record, not wrong twice in a row.

    I'll stick to reality.

    The reality is:

Joe did not move up to LHW and fight in the U.S. until his final year in 2008.

He's on record stating that he wasn't chasing Roy as he didn't want tough fights.

He's on record stating how proud he was of all of his WBO title defences.

    That is the reality.

Any talk of him wanting to fight Roy earlier is just a fantasy.

Wrong 1. EJC says "he was chasing roy jones. Calzaghe says "I'm not chasing roy jones"

Wrong 2 EJC says "Jones was still great when old" Calzaghe says "Jones was shot 2 years previous"

The very person u defend says you are wrong to defend him. Its such a clear cut case, like u trying to defend a self confessed murderer.

Now you've just claimed you were not wrong to be wrong. So thats a hattrick of wrongs for you.

Sir Joe Calzaghe is hated on for a couple of reasons.

    1) He smashed up some of the best elite fighters the USA has ever had. Hopkins / Roid jones / Lacy's of this world.
    2) he done it from a small shed in whales with his father as a trainer.
    3) there is no blueprint, no weakness.
    4) would walk through today's and yesteryears smw and lhw

cheers then theres some more reasons -
    1. calturds call lacy, old jones n hop elite
    2. without his father he wouldnt have dared to do more than unrecognised title defences
    3. weak resume
    4. walked out the door if todays or yesterdays good smws and lhws turned up

    5. being right about calling a wife abusing coke addict a knight of the realm wont happen in this universe. not post jimy seville, now they got there eyes open for such people.

When he was fighting the sport was very US centric in terms of demographic & talent pool... It's not like today where euros are smashing the sport!

He stuck out like a sore thumb! Hence his legacy & presence was scrutinized more... If he was fighting today I don't think he'd get as much heat. He scarred a lot or folk & it still burns with them.. Even worse is he just walked away from the sport health & wealth in tact with zero losses! He has caused many group hugs & I jusrt hope that one day they'll be able to cope better.

He's my favourite UK fighter post Lennox. Fury, Froch & Warrington being my other favourite's..

    Now behold the triggering

Indeed, to put his excellent feat in context, imagine if a SMW unrecognised titlist like Chris Eubank, consider -

    1. Eubank managed to win a world title, say from weak titlist Caleb Truax. This is the equivalent of Joe beating Lacy.

    2. Add to that Joes single IBF defence.....the equivalent of Chris Eubank jnr making a single defence of Truax's title and then dumping the title.

    3. But Joe didnt stop there, he went on to partially unify for a few weeks too.
Imagine if Chris Eubank Jnr had gone on to partially and for a few weeks unify at SMW by beating Callum Smith in Brighton, albeit an injured Smith. That would be outstanding, noone would care if he ran from the rematch, people would simply be amazed that eubank had done it at all.

    4. And finally to top it all, imagine Chris Eubank jnr then for instance avoiding his first unified mandatory like Joe did by moving to LHW to beat 45 year old Dariuz Michaelwski AND similarly aged James Toney, adding two HoF to his resume.

But we all know Chris couldnt manage to make one IBF defence like Joe did, or unify SMW titles for a few weeks like Joe did or beat 2 40something HoFers. He simply wasnt that good.
Joe WAS good enough, and DID the equivalent of it.

We therefore should applaud Joe for rising from obscurity in 2006 to the top of the SMW ladder before quitting the division 2007.
