The TR cash cows are fighting already. You think Pac or Cotto should just jump up to 160 to give Martinez a gift? When Pac and Cotto move to MW, then lets retalk this. But in the meantime, they have their sights set elsewhere. After Margarito, Cotto hopes to rematch Pac. And there is always the Mayweather situation.

As for Chavez Jr., the whole world knows he's not ready for Martinez.

Then he should vacate his title. He shouldn't be going around calling himself a world champ if he's not ready for the mandatory challenger for his belt.

Sure, and us fans can stop acting as if anyone with a belt is a champ at the same time. I sure don't see Chavez as anything more then a contender.

We, as fans, cannot keep complaining about all the belts and so called 'champs' in one breath, and then use that belt they hold as a reason they need to take certain challenges, in the next. We say they aren't the champs, but then treat them like they are. We can't be doing that if we want are to be consistent with our views on belts.

He's a champ in the eyes of the WBC. Martinez is the no.1 contender according to the WBC. So Chavez has two choices, fight Martinez or give up that belt. If he's not ready for Martinez, then it would seem obvious that the choice for Chavez should be to give up that belt.

It's not like he's the champ since 5 years... Dzinziruk was not a bad choice... A light Middleweight, but definitly not a bad choice. If Pirog, Sturm or Chavez aren't available after Barker, I'd like a fight against Abraham at a catchweight.

I know what you are saying. My point was more the expectations of fans as well as the # of belts per division.

I really don't care that the WBC, Chavez, or Arum recognizes him as a MW Champ. We know he's not. Everyone knows he's not. What he does with the WBC and their belt, in terms of defending or whatever, I don't give a ****. No way in hell am I going to act like 3-4 guys in the same division are the champs, nor will I hold them to the same expecations from the TRUE champs of the divisions. Just my 2cents.

Sergio Martinez in a recent interview:

Why did you choose to fight Barker?

SM: Because the other champions don't want to fight me.

Did you offer them a fight before you took Barker?
SM: Every single one of them.

Sure, but that still doesn't change the fact that they have plans for Pac and Cotto through the next year potentially. I do see more for him at 154, in terms of opponents though.

I don't think Cotto obliged to fight him or anything, but I should just say that Martinez offered to go down to 154 from the start and Arum "promised" Lewkowicz that they'd make that fight by the end of the year. He likewise said that he planned on doing a PPV for Martinez-Chavez but whined that Dzinziruk would make him look bad. After Martinez looked really good against Dzinziruk and without that excuse in his back pocket, he reverted to the nonsense that Martinez "isn't a PPV fighter."

I heard about those rumors and at first I thought with great disdain WHY??? But then if you think about it abit, this might actually be beneficial to everyone. Pacman has his first official fight at 154 not like the other one he fought for farce 154 title and in the meantime Floyd has his last fight at 147 against Khan. Floyd will be more confident in fighting Manny at 154 and all of a sudden 154 becomes the biggest star filled division in a long, long time. Pacman, Floyd, Maravilla, Alvarez, Lara, Vanes, Angulo, Williams, Molina, Ishida, Kirkland, and others. It might bring back excitement not seen since the 80s. Would be a good plan tho. Floyd-Pac maybe late 2012 or 2013. Great fights always take a while to happen.

I don't really care for this idea at all. Pacquiao and his people don't give a damn that his belt at 154 is a joke, and unless he's gained a lot of weight, he would probably use his leverage to make any Cotto fight at a more comfortable weight. I also don't see why a potential Mayweather-Pacquiao would ever occur anywhere above 147; Manny is not going to give Floyd that kind of advantage on the scale. There might be enough money in a Cotto rematch to put off Floyd, and Lord knows what Floyd will or will not actually want to do, but I don't think this logic really makes much sense for any of the parties involved.
