Why isn’t Sergio Martinez fighting the best at 160??

Promises from promoters, boxers, or anyone in boxing, should be taken with a grain of salt.

Obviously, but at least publicly this wasn't just a matter of Martinez coming along and Arum saying "Aw shucks we already have plans for these guys." I think it's pretty clear he's not the least bit interested in having any of his guys in there with Martinez, plans or no plans, and all of his public comments about such potential fights should be taken as typical self-serving PR nonsense.

Yeah, I agree with you. As long as Arum can make big, but winnable fighs for his guys, he'll take that route over a more dangerous fighter not in his stable.

He had a six year contract with Universum in 2005 but quickly became frustrated because they weren't getting him credible opponents. He tried to terminate the contract in January of 2010, but lost in court. As a result, he hasn't been able to fight in Germany or the US because of Universum's exclusive rights to him; this is why he's had to fight Ouma and Nunez in Panama and Tapia in Kazakhstan. The contract is supposed to finally expire on November 21st, and it sounds like he's interested in signing with a US promoter at that time.

I think the best thing Sergio can do is just stay busy and wipeout the 154-160 divisions. He does that they cant ignore him for long and by then more casual fans will know this guy. Theyll know theres a new kid on the block and either Manny or Floyd will have to face him IF they decide to fight at 154. I would love to see Sergio vs Vanes, Lara, or Angulo.
