Why isn`t the Wilder v Fury fight being staged in a stadium?

Stadium boxing is like wearing 54" pants when you got a 32 inch waist.

They could seat the crowd on the subs bench, no need to open the stands

That's what I thought until I dug into it a bit. Lewis had many smaller fights. Vs. Mavrovich was a small venue. Vs. Botha was in London, not on PPV. Rahman I in South Africa, not on PPV as I recall. (the rematch was PPV though). Vs. Vitali Klitschko once again a B level venue, not on PPV.

Lewis did well financially when he was facing top tier US based fighters such as Holyfield or Tyson. But on his own, against obscure foreign fighters he wasn't a huge draw in the US.

Stadium boxing is great as long as I'm at home or in pub watching on tv. If I'm there I want to be close enough to see and I'd like a roof please also.

In Britain we’re all about stadiums. If it’s a huge fight it’s going into a huge stadium, mentality.

The U.S seems to be more on general location; if it’s a huge fight it’s happening in Vegas, mentality.

Lewis wasn`t as popular as AJ is now in Britain back in the 90`s and he wasn`t as popular as Bruno either, in fact his biggest fight in Britain was vs Frank in `93 and that was because he was facing Bruno, it`s like Tommy Hearns was never a star either unless there was a superstar in the other corner.

Bruno vs Lewis was staged at a stadium also, do you know the attendance figures for 'the battle of Britain'?

I think UK fans are more fanatic and loyal.

Even big rock concerts can be held in stadiums in the UK whereas in America the same bands will play in arenas.

We don't have a giant machine, disguised as a city, designed to part people from their money like the US does in Vegas.

Hearn knows his market. Truth be told, if he could get away with charging extortionate prices, he probably would. But he knows his audience. A lot of the fans that attend fight night are the same people that attend football games. It’s quite the community. I reckon if Hearn was to try it, he’d not only see less people attend the fight, but he’d also see a windfall when it comes to his PPV’s as a result.

It should be in the UK in a stadium. Good point.
