Ward is obviously a great talent and has superior skills similar to Mayweather but is not very well known to the casual boxing fan which is a shame. How can Ward elevate himself to the American public and become a bigger star?

if he was loud, boisterous and brash throughout the super six tournament, coupled with his skills and how big of a hype machine showtime happens to be, he would be a superstar. his well mannered, cerebral stoicism is what lets him down. no one outside of serious fans are trying to pay to see him win or lose. boxing is entertainment as well as sport. outside of the golden eras in the sport's history, where it was mainstream, only the greatest characters have become household names.

He is boring both in and out the ring. It's that simple.

An unappealing fighting style would be my guess.

Ward would be more popular if he had a bad boy personality. He could then sell himself better if he did. With the whole SOG thing it turns some off especially with his style. With that said I love watching Ward fight, he's the last of the great mater technicians in the sport todaym damn shame he's under appreciated. Guys like Ward, PBF, Hopkins JMM and Rigo won't be fully missed and appreciated until they retire. They're light years better and more skilled than everyone else.

Rarely fights. Unappealing boring style. Isnt promoted well or given exposure. Isnt contraversial or flashy. In a pretty dry division etc etc.

    This.

There is a reason the obnoxious 'Money' is way more known than the smiling 'Pretty Boy' could ever dream of being.

I agree with the euros thing, especially brits. he's beaten their pride and joy, another one of my favorite fighters in carl froch?

but because of his mixed race? I doubt that.

Because there is no Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya in his division to make him one ..

Probably the most talented dude out there along with Mayweather and Rigo but not a very entertaining or engaging personality to go with it. Not very exciting inside the ring either sadly. I find Mayweather to be absolutely mesmerizing to watch due to how quick and and fluid everything he does looks. Ward is another kind of awesome, more of that Hopkins approach, which is less appealing to look at frankly.

Also, his fight frequency is way too low for a potential ATG in his physical prime. The fact that he fights in America only decreases the potential number of EU fans as they have to stay awake all night to watch a Ward fight a US time zone.

That's probably it. I used to call myself a Ward fan but his very low fight output is turning me off a little.

you don't have to get sarcastic. I mean, you can do whatever you want but it's unnecessary. More than his lack of acceptance on either side, his lack of personality is what affects him, no matter how ambiguous he happens to be from a racial perspective. He's a boring jesus freak with no controversy, and the type of guy that would handle controversy with an even hand. In my opinion that has very little to do with race. David Haye is half black and half white and he puts asses in seats.
