Well boxing isn't in the position to turn away fans...even if they're just fans of specific fighters.
I'm a huge Pac fan and I'm backing him 100% in a PBF fight. But I still think that Pac is the underdog in the fight...
Why not? It is when they don't know **** about the sport, or the science of boxing, ala MMA fans. "Wooooo I can grapple and know what an Oma-Plata is so I can whoop any one-dimensional boxer, it's a boring sport anyway, no action". Nah, boxing would be fine if the fighters were managed correctly, the alphabet straps got abolished once and for all, and the right fights and fighters were promoted properly. How many casual fight fans know who Rampage Jackson is more than they know who Pacquiao is? A better question, how many have seen Jackson fight more than Pacquiao? It's crap promotion
Unless I'm mistaken, a casual fan's money is just as green as a "hardcore fans". Hardcore boxing fans will always be there, it's the casual fight fans that promoters constantly go out to get. They're the life blood of the sport. If we wrote off every fan who didn't know anything about boxing other than a select few fighters, the sport wouldn't even be allowed in Nevada.
Oh I'm not getting you wrong in any way, that's your prediction and you're entitled to it. I agree that Mayweather might have the style advantage but I also believe that Mayweather might have issues with southpaws as mentioned before and this is not just any southpaw. Zab in the first three rounds looked to give Mayweather hell, imagine that for full 12 from Pac. That's what makes it interesting I guess, too many different views and discussions which is why this MUST happen if Mayweather is victorious against Marquez.
A lot of Mayweather/Pac depends on the rust, age and the timing of this fight. I don't expect Mayweather to get challenged much by Marquez, so he's probably better off taking another fight to get in complete sync. If he fights Pac straight out of a Marquez fight? It's probably 50/50.
On ESB it is about 50/50. But here is what i think: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=142912
Roach said that Mayweather would be tough to beat but not impossible. They have been calling out Mayweather even before he announced his return.
Because it is a huge $$$ Money $$$ fight. Immediately after the fight (Pac/Hatton), Arum pushed that a fight with Cotto would be more exciting, and that Floyds style would be a nightmare. Roach agreed. Now that it is clear that fans want to see this fight - they will spin their words because they have to promote it. Now it will be a exciting p4p battle, as opposed to a nightmare.
Mayweather will most likely show everybody why he should be the favorite on, 7/18/09 after that the tables will turn, because public oppinion will change! a lot of people are waiting to see how floyd looks before jumping on the banwagon Everybody is still thinking about the image of a wasted hatton on the ring mat a few weeks back, but they fail to realize that Ricky and no PBF
They don't what they are talking about and that money lines the promoters pockets, it does not make boxing grow.... MMA grows because of exciting fights, even fights. Exciting, even fightsm eans more casual fans. Few years down the lines they become hard-core fans. Boxing does not have this, a few of my friends were turned off it cus they thought some of Khans fights, especially against Lawton and Barret, were fixed. The trend continues, you can thank the casual fans for bringing Hatton as far as hes come.
