If anytihng making this sport as an optional high school activity would help discipline troubled kids
whoever runs these boards of education are a bunch of pansies

type in boxing gyms and pick some city that is in the 40K to 150K range, good chance you might not find any in a city. High School Boxing Programs would help eliminate this lack of gyms.

i dont think it would breed violence, people learn to respect others through boxing and martial arts, respect should be at the core of these trainings.

For many reasons, but the most important is that it is not as relevant as the other big three (football, baseball and basketball), especially to the youth.

I'm sure many young kids would be very interested in joining the sport though. Kids always are interested in testing their toughness. Also, being the boxing champion at your high school would sit well with the ladies!

It used to be a high school sport. My Friend's Dad boxed in high school. I also agree that this has led to the decline in American boxing. I live in a city of 350,000 people and there are only 3 boxing gyms and they are only really frequented by older paisas not American kids. Back in the day it was common to know someone who learned to box in school or in the service, now nobody really follows boxing let alone knows someone who boxes. I wish that USA boxing or somebody were more proactive about getting more kids involved.

This would be the one. At our local gym we always get funneled these gangsta personas. Needless to say they leave after they get fed to the more experienced guys.... The type that does stick with it are generally already too involved in other sports to make a full time committment.
