I think a lot of people forget about Bradley's win over Witter which was a very good win at the time in my opinion. He exhibited good power when he dropped him in the 5th.
I think it has to do with his legs. His legs are too wide open when he attacks and cannot rotate his hips and change his weight from one foot to the other when hitting with his right hand. Actually it is not mandatory to never fight with your legs so opened, you can open your legs as much as you wan to (my personal opinion, a lot of trainers would disagree a others would not, i guess) but if you do that, like i.e. lara does, you have to correct the position of your right leg when hitting, like lara does. This last fight I havent seen bradley doing this mistake as much as in his previous fights, btw, thats why I think I had the feeling that he was hitting harder. Anyway, he did it still a lot. A mere con makes the same mistake, btw, thats why he can only hit hard when he is in stationary position, because yes, I think that a mere con can hit hard, BUT only when he doesnt have to move a single inch to hit, If he has to change his legs position his right leg goes nuts and starts flying all over the ring, It's so funny how bad he does.
Bradley just isnt that good of a boxer. His current s****om and high earning is as much a symptom of the decline in US boxing as any talent Bradley has. He is simply a big(-ish) fish in a small (talent) pond.
OK. I can settle and explain this ONCE AND FOR ALL. If you ever have taken a pyhsics class they tell you power is generated by speed x power... The other factor though that matters in punching power is how much "give" is in the item that is delivering the force... Here is an example: You know those "noodles" kids play with at the pool? Picture yourself hitting an object with one. SMACK. But it bends... It has a lot of give in it. Now put that "noodle" in a giant freezer and try the same thing... It could do some serious damage... It would weigh exactly the same, but when it made contact, it wouldn't bend and it would drive more of the force into the target. Muscles do the same thing. When they are tensed when hitting the target, more power is transmitted. I truly believe this is why SO many fast fighters don't have one-punch KO power despite perfect technique. THey are not tensing the muscle on impact. THis is because flexing your muscles to make you more stiff slows you down...
I dont know, I dont consider bradley's hitting technique "perfect", not even close to "perfect". He throws punches from positions where his weight distribution is s***t, and as I've said his legs are not helping at all. One thing is not having devastating one-punch ko power, and another thing is not having power at all. Do you sacrifice power for speed? sure, but... how much power? to the point that you cannot hurt a fly or crack an egg? there are plenty of boxers fast as lighting and with pretty decent power, so it cannot be that, or at least, not that by itself it has to be something more and i guess it's weight distribution and legs positioning. On the other hand, im not an expert, just my opinion, i can be totally wrong, wouldnt be the first time.
I was just thinking about this the other day. Bradley doesn't transition his body well to produce pop at the end of a punch. If Bradley were rowing a boat, he would be sinking the paddle very deep and pulling back at an awkward angle, not gliding efficiently. Essentially, Bradley doesn't know how to "flow" to produce power. He punches with spite, yes, but spite actually ends up hurting power production. A puncher needs to be relaxed to let force easily flow through their body. Bradley has such a jerky, urgent style of fighting that he can't do this. That being said, he sees punches very well and has enough speed and boxing IQ to be a good boxer.
Bradley is an arm puncher for the most part...some people just have the muscle co-ordination throughout whole body to transfer their mass into the punch. Bradley doesn't do it. It's a mixture of many elements and yes for the most part - Punchers are born. If Bradley had power many of his other assets wouldn't exist. His stamina would be worse. His speed would suffer. His technique would probably change. If he could just magically develop power he would be the ruler of 147...or be once Floyd/Pac retires. "If you ever have taken a pyhsics class they tell you power is generated by speed x power" - No: *Force is determined by the mass of the body multiplied by its acceleration and power is velocity multiplied by the force.
Deep down he likes Amir Khan and doesn't want him to run out of potential feather-fisted opponents. :nod
Trust me bro. Tensing your body up right before impact can make a HUGE difference in the power of the punch...
