The US boxing audience is the dumbest in the world and HBO has to cater to them in order to make money. US boxing TV does does not have a history of supporting fighters unless they either a) American b) Latino c) live in America It's about marketability. If you're Japanese and fight guys from New Zealand or South Korea it doesn't matter if you 'step up and fight someone' because HBO will never be interested even if you fought King Kong. Why? Because dumb US Americans couldn't spell your country let alone find it on a map.
