Why isn't Hearn signing any top Amateurs lately?

Andrew Selby is in WSB currently and doesn't wish to turn pro right now.

 

None turning pro before commonwealths id imagine

 

He lets FW start their careers before taking them when they are closer to their peak. Smart man.

 

The last thing Hearn needs to do is sign anymore amateurs. Matchroom shows are already stacked with Top Amateur v TBA fights.

It's always nice to see the talent we have on these shores progressing and rising through the ranks, however it get's a bit tiresome if that's all we get to see with decent domestic dust ups suffering as a result due to the cards being full of prospects rather than matured pros.

Hearn needs to find the right balance.

 

While I get your point about Hearn having a good young stable just now, if Andrew Selby became available you can't pass that up tbh, within 10 fights he will be on the verge of a world title fight.

 

Matchroom only want ready made stars like Luke Campbell and Joshua. This way they can sell tickets and make loads of money immediately.

Matchroom don't have the time or ability to guide and build up unknowns. They let Frank and other promoters build up decent fighters. Matchroom then poach these fighters and ruin them.

 

How many of these have they 'ruined?' Only one really you could say is McDonnell but it's early days there

Anyway it makes perfect sense for matchroom to let others develop and then poach them, investing in young athletes in any sport is massively risky so when you are in the best position (which at the moment is matchroom) there's no point in them taking on riskier prospects, may as well go for the Campbell/Joshua's and seeing as there's no compensation system like say football has with transfer fees quite frankly you've got to be a mug to invest a lot in a young fighter with the situation as it is (ie it's nigh on impossible to be a star if you aren't on sky as the likes of BBC and itv don't do boxing anymore) because as soon as they get decent they'll be running to eddie or one of the American promoters

 

FW fans, much like Frank, don't understand how businesses work.

 

Andrew Selby should turn pro, he is a class act. Dont understand why he is wasting his prime years in the amateurs

 

Can make about £70k a year that may be why

 

Most amatuers arent going to turn over now, as most of the ones from the last olympics have either decided to go pro or stay amatuer most amateurs have probebly decided to wait for the next olympics.
Also after Andrew Selby and Anthony Fowler theres no real top class amatuers to sign and they both look like they will be staying amateur for a while

 

Mainly for 2 reasons.

- Many eventually wanting to go pro will now hold out until after the Commonwealth games or the next Olympics/Olympic selection.

- He already signed some of the stars of the last Olympics and has a good few young names which need to develop in his stable already. As already mentioned, there's no point him having loads of young talent that will be fighting 'TBA' or the renowned teak tough Ghanaian.. he needs to find the balance.

He's also very light, not sure if his division in the pro's would see him earn that sort of ££££.
