Do you think he did beat Jimmy Barry or something

Janitor is right, when he says that Jimmy had gotten old an ripe for the picking, as age beats everyone eventually. But, the fact is that McGovern never beat Jimmy Barry, just like Wlad never Beat Lennox, or Patterson never beat Marciano, Hart never beat Burns, Robinson never beat Marty Servo etc.

McGovern would have probably beaten Barry, but to be honest, he would have been the underdog if they had fought, and it isnt the guarantee most people think. Prime for Prime, most who saw both fight would not have much between them, but many would have made Jimmy Barry the favourite, despite the excellent point made previously about weights.

In reality, the true reason why McGovern isnt rated by most as the Greatest Bantamweight ever is because his reign was too spectacular but short. If You rate him highly at the weight, you have to give very high heavyweight rankings to guys like Tyson, Marciano, Spinks, Tunney, bowe and Liston, among others. Most people seem to prefer longevity.
