How exactly was that fight sanctioned yet Jones-Lebby became a no contest after a fat 40 year old Jones beat the living dog **** out of hometown hero Lebby only for it to be turned to a no contest. Pedvetkin failed 2 tests in a row in his own country and fought a guy who had 2 hours notice who just got off the couch preparing for Christmas with his family. He didn't win that fight legitimately at all, probably the most roided fighter in recent memory.
The whole thing is just farcical. From the point he was caught against Wilder to now has just been one long stream of endless facepalming cringeworthy roid riddled boosheet. It all culminated in a guy, wearing trainers and trunks I'm sure he made himself with the 30 minutes notice he had for this fight, have his light turned out.
Perhaps because the WBC withdrew it's recognition of the bout so it no longer was fought under their guidelines. Also Duhaupas was aware of the situation and agreed to take the fight anyway unlike someone who unknowingly engages in a fight with someone who has failed a test. Those could be two reasons.
Are we sure what Duhaupas knew? Do we have video or written confirmation that he was told, "This guy has been juicing and failed a test, the WBC won't even sanction it, but we'd like you to fight him"? He likely - almost certainly - heard about the test, but no way we know exactly what he was told, other than what he would be paid. Did he even weigh in? Take a physical? Take a cab straight to the arena with no time for mental, much less, physical, preparation? Boxrec does not list a weight for him. What happened here is criminal -- guy tests positive for a PED puts his opponent's health at risk, but no promoter nor manager nor commission said "HALT!!! Povetkin can't fight because he failed the best. He has PEDs in his body and thus has an advantage that could give him a dangerous advantage of thus CANNOT fight!!!" It's obscene. And the WBC could have suspended Povetkin immediately, which would have halted the fight -- if the Russian commission did not hold up the WBC suspension, then the WBC would ban any fighter who fights under their auspices from ever fighting for a WBC belt of any sort, and they wouldn't go against that.
1. The fight was not sanctioned by the WBC, which is why Stiverne left and why Duhapas did not lose his WBC belt. 2. Povetkin tested positive for ostarine, which is not a steroid. Jones tested positive for steroids. I assume a fighter can use ostarine in Russia but not per WBC guidelines. Steroids are universally banned.
There's a tendency recently not to change results to NC if boxer was caught on PEDs. Povetkin - Duhaupas, Teper - Price and Browne - Chagaev are recent examples Had these fights happened 10-15 years ago, they would've been overruled to NC Maybe it shows that PEDs would be legalized 10 years from now?
This is an interesting observation. Is there any chance Povetkin will be allowed to fight within Russia but with no WBC relations? Not sure how these things work.
