The man is fairly well known I would imagine in the boxing world. He hasn't ducked anybody, fights an aesthetically pleasing fight, and has decent pop. He has mostly conducted himself with class throughout most of his career, yet finds himself without a fight. Honest question: Would you pay for a SSM-Mayweather/Pacquiao bout? I know I sure would. Why both won't fight Mosley: Neither fighter can KO Mosley, but he can KO them; If Vernon Forrest couldn't finish him with the vicious combo he landed on him, no way can Pac or $$$$ denting that chin. Floyd is riding his "I called him out twice before card" and Roach knows better. At least Roach isn't blatant with his "pussyness". Shane's will can't be broken, has comparable speed, ring intelligence, and better power. He also has respectable defense. If Floyd never fights Shane, in my eyes, this missing fight will always linger over his "legacy." For all the Money lovers out there... save your "reasons" for why Money May shouldn't fight Shane. We all know... he's old, and had 2 chances. You don't even sound like boxing fans not wanting this fight to happen. Oh, yes I forgot... Floyd can't win because we all will say " Shane was to0 old, and Pac too small." Ummm, NO. If he fights Shane when he's 40-****ing-2, then yes I will gripe. However, if he fights him in the next year I have no choice but to humbly give him his do. Most observers do not view Shane too old, nor Manny too small. Why are they clamoring for these bouts so if that be the case? Your arguments are ludicrous, your scared bums fearful to see $$'s "0" go- just like he is. Lastly, to your argument of "Floyd can't win (the publics respect or praise) no matter who he fights"... NOBODY ASKED FOR A DE LA HOYA, HATTON, OR MARQUEZ MATCH!!! That is why people ***** after Floyd whips somebody that we didn't even want to see him fight, let alone felt had a chance of winning. Yeah... I know, he was called out. Well Shane called that stutterin' trick out to his face. His response? "Uh, well we called Shane out back in the day. Leonard Ellerbe and Al Haymon conduct my business." Him blatantly dodging SSM really forces me to question the legitimacy of Floyd's claims of "calling him out" in the past. You were brave then Mayweather, but now it don't make "business sense." Get the **** outta here. This fight clears 1.5 million buys easy!!!! Floyd Mayweather: Grow a pair. Yes Shane may want a payday, SO DOES FLOYD. Why are they fighting in the first place?! There is no logical reasoning as to why this fight shouldn't take place. Or Paquioa, or Cotto. Floyd has pinned himself into a corner. Fight a legit threat, or retire. Say goodbye to Floyd Mayweather.
The biggest fights he had post DLH were the two Forrest fights and the two Winky fights. That leveled out his heights. He fought Winky instead of having a rubber match with DLH and with a Tito fight on the horizon, therefore he lost the $$$ from a third DLH fight and lost the oppurtunity for a Tito fight as well, not one of the greatest business decisions in the sport.
Mosley is a superstar. He's a household name for the most part. He's not much of a draw though for whatever reason. Nothing about him really pops, although he is truly sensational. Years ago when I started amassing dvd collections he wasn't one of the first guys I picked up, if you follow me..
I honestly don't know why he's not more famous. He makes exciting fights and he's fun to watch. I don't understand why Mayweather is such a big star. His fights are boring and he generally comes off like an arrogant, boastful, ass-hat.
In the Pay Per View eara it is hard for any boxer to truly be a superstar. Mosley's biggest problem is that he is inconsestant. His losses are to guys that I don't nesscarly think were better than him.
For me, just stylistically, because I was more of a purely visual type like a baseball fan who has preferences about his favorite player's stance and cut - Mosley doesn't tend to pose out as much. He's more of whirling dervish mad koala bear kind of fighter. He doesn't give you all the arcs and angles some of the other guys do. He does.. But he doesn't. He's not much for fanfare in his execution. Doesn't seem at all aware of it. He's just a pure fighter. Hands low, erect, no classic extension on his moves generally, more frenetic, more staccato, ect.. Still love em. What he did to Margarito was a religious thing. Absolutely euphoric. The Collazo show was tear-inspiring as well. Absolutely masterful. Lots of greats from the past as well, but this was a question about where we're at I think.
After his losses to Winky, he fought mediocre opposition for 3 years before beating Collazo and then losing to Cotto. His win against Margo early this year put him up pretty high on most p4p lists. He's a top 5 WW with a recognizable name.
Anyone who wouldn't buy either Mosley PPV hasn't been following the sport the last few years (this rules out the contingent that might try to brush Shane off as "too past it"); or is a hater, pure and simple.
I love Shane Mosley. I've always been a fan, always will be and have bought nearly all the PPV's he's been involved on or at least gone and watched the fight at somone elses house who did.
Bad management. He could have been a Los Angeles franchise if he had fought here more after beating DLH. He fought at the Great Western Forum early in his career. But since his fight with DLH in 2000, he has only fought in Los Angeles twice. Whos idea was it to fight Vernon Forrest in New York when his fans are in the west coast? atsch Also, he wasted time at 154. He was too small and could had a long reign at 147. Forrest may have beaten him, but I could not see fighters like Judah, Baldomir, Mayorga, or Spinks holding belts had he stayed at 147 all this time.
