Why not a superstar? That is what happens when you let your wife manage you.

She didn't do a bad job for someone with no industry experience.

Here's why Shane is not a superstar. He fought a bunch of people no one cared about at LW. Despite this, his fight against Hoya put him in a position to be a star. However, Shane followed up this win by taking on 3 no hopers. After that, he was basically forced to fight Forrest after HBO realized people weren't interested in seeing Shane fight setups. Forrest kicked Shane's ass and his aura of invincibility was gone.

Shane then foolishly fought Forrest again and lost again. He followed these losses up with a ND and then somehow got to fight Oscar again. He won that fight but most thought Oscar was jobbed. So at this point, Shane had gone two years without winning a fight in many people's eyes. After getting a furtuitous decision vs. Hoya, Shane decided to turn down $12 mill to fight Hoya again and was basically forced to fight Wright. Wright kicked his ass, and then beat him again for good measure. So at this point, we're talking about 3 years since Shane at a win in many people's eyes.

After the Winky debacle, Shane was considered washed up. His next fight was against a B level fighter on the undercard of an ESPN PPV(which was headlined by Margo). He followed that up by fighting another setup , then fought the washed up Vargas twice. Amazingly, Shane still had a chance to be propelled back into the spotlight after beating Vargas for the second time. However, he decided to pass on fighting Mayweather in the hopes of getting him in the ring after Mayweather had fought Hoya.

We didn't see Mosley again for the rest of the year and then he resurfaced and beat a decent WW in the form of Collazo in front of a half empty arena(by this time, most of America forgot Shane existed). Once again though, Shane was thrown a bone. He got a fight with Cotto. He fought well, but lost and followed that up with a shaky performance against Mayorga. Everyone assumed he was completely done at this point, but once again was thrown a bone. This time he capitalized by destroying Margo.

So why isn't Mosley a superstar? IMO, it's two things. First he doesn't have a built in audience that will support him no matter what. Second, his career has been poorly managed, which has left a lot of people with little faith in him. If you think about it, Shane has not performed at a consitantly high level for bout 8 years. I give him credit though, it seems like he's learning. Mayweather is the big name out there now. Floyd has the big name because his career has been managed beautifully. Mayweather is now the guy that everyone wants to see knocked off his high horse. Mosley has made himself relevant again by casting himself as the guy to do it.

I honestly think its because the class of fighters that he was comming up with...he had so many other great fighters he came up with...plus he started at a lower weight and lower weights dont get as much recognition as a lot fo the bigger guys and then theres the losses....so i think he just always been second tier as far as a draw goes.....there is nothing flashy about him nothing to make headlines about him a true american so he wont have a great following like other countrymen...

HONESTLY i think had he beat Vernon and Winky Mosley would be up there.

He's comes across as a nice feller but thats the prob as nice guy's usually always miss out/fade away, it's the bad *******s that get the public interest/make history so get remembered:smoke

He lacks Charisma. Plain and simple. You couple that with his losses in his prime.

    2002-Forrest LOSS
    2002-Forrest LOSS
    2003- Marquez NC
    2003- DLH (Highly contreversial win)
    2004-Winky LOSS
    2004-Winky LOSS
    2005-2007- Lackluster fights
    2007- Cotto LOSS

5 years in a row of unimpressive fights.

It's actually pretty easy to see why he never became a Super Star.

ODLH made him a household name.

this is a good post.. alot of boxing fans on here have short memories.. he looked great against margo, but before that he looked shaky against mayorga. he just doesn't have any consistency..
