Did GGG get stripped or is it something else? If Brook beats GGG next Saturday, does GGG still become the WBA Super Champ?
From what I read, basically they think that the fight is a joke and that they didn't want to sanction the fight. They said that Brook has not had 1 MW fight and would not sanction the fight because they feel that Brook is in danger of being hurt.
It was. The WBA has little credibility left after having 3 belts per division but even they know it is a lopsided fight.
It's probably too serious a fight for a sanctioning body that put the title on the line last year between two guys coming off a loss (Broner and Allakhverdiev), one of which hadn't fought in 2 years, and then immediately promoted the winner ti Super Champion
All organizations have done ludicrous stuff but most of the time guys have either fought in that weight class or below\above. This is two weight classes. I just saw a recent pic of GG and Brook. He looks bigger than Brook. They measured Leonard and Hagler way back when and sugar was just as big as Hagler. Leonard showed us his hands after the fight and both were swollen. He said he lost a lot of weight that night using so much energy and this is Sugar. GG for all its worth is a hell of a fighter right now and Brook will have to be more offensive minded after that first bell and be consistent with earning respect the whole fight because of GGs style. In other words, can he take the punishment. Leonard did, Basilio did, Robinson did.
Pretty sure issues like this would be covered in contracts for titlefights in sort of a general disclaimer. Issues with alphabet orgs aren't something of the last couple of years, so pretty sure the people who design the first drafts would have thought of that.
The WBA did not want to sanction the fight, without Brook having not 1 single MW bout.. it's that simple.
if golovkin loses the belt is vacant, if he wins he keeps it. Just means brook can't win that belt, who cares..if he's to beat golovkin then he's the man at middleweight regardless of the wba belt. They sanctioned jones jnr v ruiz though, which was a 175lber jumping to heavyweight... and weighed in 30lbs less than ruiz i believe
