Dumb thread. Only a complete fool would discount the achievements of Adamek or (especially) Calzaghe. Truth is, there are dolts from every country who happily exhibit their doltishness throughout the internet. Take a look around and you'll see. Calzaghe fans who refer to Dawson as a hypejob also are foolish. At a certain point, resume has to count for something. The mistake you make, Cobbler, is indulging yourself to believe that these people represent American fans as a whole. They don't, but sometimes the biggest haters speak most loudly. Please identify posts where established American posters on this site slag off Calzaghe. Additionally, most of the Kessler frustration has been directed at his competition: i.e, how can such a talented fighter waste his prime years by the likes of the guys he fought in 2008?
Perfect post. Also his terrible promoters who seem to know how to avoid getting him involved in anything resembling a big fight recently. It's more like "Why is this great fighter dipping in and out of fights? Why can't WE see him against the best now?" The Miranda fight he lost out on, The Dawson fight etc etc. Too many "almost" sort of fights on his resume.
Adamek is no bum. He's willing to fight the best and isn't protected. He has good skills, movement and a nice jab. He has proven his worth at 175 and at CW. He will give Cunningham all he can handle when they meet.
I think the term Eurobum is related to the guys who fight only in Europe and mostly the European competition (doesn't really matter if weak or strong). If they fight the internationals fighters (see the US know names) then they chose between either former contenders but shot now or unknown and irrelevant. So Adamek is not Euro bum since he won LHW title at US COAST IN FRONT OF US PPV watchers and still continue fighting this way. As the example Calzaghe was Eurobum untill he beat Lacy and Hatton was Eurobum untill he beat Tyszu. As for Haye ... he is still Eurobum if you speak of his HW career.
I take it you haven't seen the Briggs fights? Two all out, close, highly skilled wars, with plenty of action(very rarely seen north of welterweight) on American television in America. Briggs was a very very good fighter by the way and really should have won a world title IMHO. And of course, Adamek's loss to Dawson legitimises Dawson.
I think Adamek will beat Cunningham. I think he's a decent fighter. For the record, I don't think Calzaghe or Kessler are 'Eurobums' either. I judge fighters by what I see, by who they've beaten (it's pretty easy to tell a decent fighter from a bum, i.e Linares is not even fighting B level opposition, Adamek has, and if you believe some fans, dropped an A-level fighter and lasted the distance)
Didn't realise this thread was still going, but I just skimmed the last couple of pages and can't find any questions that you asked me? Would you care to specify what the question is?
