Why Isn't Tomasz Adamek A Eurobum?

    Adamek is not a Eurobum because he has a pro style, power, and chin beyond belief. I wouldn't have called him one before Thursday, and anyone calling him one after Thursday needs psychiatric help.

    None of this means that Eurobums don't exist. We've all seen them, and the existence of elite European fighters doesn't mean they have all mysteriously evaporated, any more than guys like Deandre Lattimore and Devon Alexander can absolve the Midwest circuit of its tomato cans.

    Bums are bums worldwide. It just so happens that European and American ones come in distinctly different packages.

    The subject of this thread was American perceptions of different European boxers, as I explained to you at the time.

    It was not about Tomas Adamek, nor did it say anything particularly negative about him. He was used as an example of one type of perception compared, for instance, to the perceptions of other fighters like Joe Calzaghe, for much of his career, and Mikkel Kessler.

    Stereotypes die hard and Americans have had some hard stereotypes about boxing and about Europeans for years. Plus most of the American public don't follow boxing and so the casual fan is often surprised to learn that Euros can box at all, much less beat Americans. Its jsut stereotypes.

    Adamek's early record is what it is. Exactly the kind of record that usually gets sneered at. But that wasn't happening in his case to the extent that it does in others. Nowhere did I say that it should or that I considered it so.

    To be honest, I was giving you some benefit of the doubt with the possibility that you may be posting in a language that is not your first (I have no idea) and that, maybe, you were missing a nuance or two.

    Now I'm starting to think that you're just being deliberately obtuse. You're clearly desperate for Adamek to have some haters (he appears mercifully free of the phenomenon so far, no doubt his time will come as it does for all) so that you can leap to your man's defence against them. Well, you're wasting your time, coz I ain't your man.
