Why isn't Valuev valued more?

I remember one where he randomly woke up from sleep walking and KO’d a guy…

Theres height. Usyk is point fighter. Marciano is power guy whose power wasn't that special for dealing with 190s.

Listons got a reach 18 inches longer than Marciano. Listons got one of the longest reaches in HW history, Marcianos barely outreaching Manny Pacquiao.

Valuev shamelessly ducking the Klitschko brothers killed whatever good reputation he could’ve had, since even Russians weren’t buying his excuses.

Fury despite all his flaws was willing to fight the best. Imagine Fury’s reputation if he didn’t take the Klitschko fight. Fury would’ve got laughed out of the sport.

This. Technically Valuev is not too bad, he's just sloooww. And as he aged he became slllooooowwww.

If he'd had more fights as a younger (faster) fighter he'd have been better off and probably be remembered better.

Not too sure what you're referring to here.

But, yeah I could see Liston overpowering Marciano.

    Usyk would embarrass Valuev.

I had Valuev losing to Holyfield. And though it has been many a year since I last watched the Donald fight, I seem to recall having Larry beating Valuev as well.

    Most people had Holyfield winning.

I think Brian Nelson has that beat.

    One of the longest.

I do not consider Brian Nielsen a HW contender.

Not really. Valuev's career was probably more manufactured than Wilder's was. And at least Wilder was exciting and could punch like a mfer. Wilder signed to fight his fair share of boogeymen in the division, Luis Ortiz, Alexander Povetkin, Tyson Fury, and even later in his career against Zhang he took a dangerous fight against a highly touted, heavy-handed fighter. I don't think Valuev ever really took that many risky fights in his career and I doubt he would even beat Luis Ortiz, or someone on the level of Luis Ortiz.

Have you watched him fight? He was slow, plodding, and easy to hit. If not for his massive size he would have never been a boxer let along HW champion. On a P4P basis, if you took his respective skill set and made him a Welter or Middleweight he'd be KO'd in one round.

He doesn't really strike me as being a man who has hidden depths to his record, that have become clouded by the passage of time.

He actually has very few elite level wins, and is probably remembered more or less as he should be.

He held a major title and you have to give him respect for that, but little more can be said for him.

I know holyfield and Donald were controversial. I also didn't think he beat Ruiz for the title.

Because he looked like a giant Cro-Magnon that the Russians had thawed out to finally defeat Holyfield, without realizing that Holyfield wasn't actually good anymore. You could park a Geo Metro on his forehead with room to spare.
