They seem to be good enough, hand speed and decent power.Holding some belts.I dont know why they dont get any exposure around here.instead some like Linares spent a long time boxing there.Here in US is where the big bucks are. Japanese are snobs and feel their culture is superior to everyone else. If you thought like that, why would you feel a need to go overseas and achieve something?
Partially that, but also there's enough money for them to stay in Japan, just like German fighters don't have to leave Germany.
They make good money over there and the fighters from the lower weightclasses, where they excel, don't typically make huge money in the US. If they can make as much, or more, money fighting at home, they don't really have a reason to leave. Fighting in the US would probably get them bigger fights and enhance their reputation but I suppose it depends on how important legacy is to you.
I wouldn't say that.. Hasegawa has only fought in Japan, but I think it's mainly because he's the champion and more than likely, the challenger has to go to their hometown.. Montiel was willing to go to Japan and so is Gonzalez.. Koki Kameda mainly fights in Japan, but has also fought in Mexico as well.. I don't think they really care about U.S. exposure..
Nobody is going to pay a lot of money to watch these lower weight fighters on US soil. They make more money fighting in Japan. It's an economic decision. HBO doesn't even feature many lower weight fights at all. Heck, Latino fighters make a lot more money fighting in Japan in the lower weights.
They make good money over there, and the greater attention they receive is something that's not to be ignored. When a fighter makes it far enough to become a star in that scene, I can't blame them for not being eager to give that up and start from scratch here. We'd have better chances of seing U.S. based Japanese fighters if a U.S. promoter made a concerted effort to scout Japan and bring the promising ones over while they're still prospects. Our investment in Japan's boxing scene is essentially zero, however, on the promoting side and the exposure side. Fans here can't even see their best fights without having to jump through alot of hoops to do it. What that means is that U.S. networks have to invest championship money to compete with what the fighter earns in Japan on a fighter with no U.S. exposure. It's just not going to happen much, if at all.
UFC doesn't have venues all over the word like boxing does.. Most of them are in the U.S. with a few scattered in some other countries..
Why should they go to America? Why do you have to go stateside is you're a good fighter that's obscure to North Americans?
Difference is that America has historically ruled boxing, so why would we care about proving something in other nations? We're the Kings, so you dance for us. I can't name too many Japanese ATG boxers off the top of my head.
