For me I can see why Simpson looses so many close fights, his defence is so bad and chin so good that in the rounds he is doing well in he still takes clean shots which gives the judges a problem. In the rounds his opponent is doing well in this gets highlighted even more. He is not a knockout artist so needs to concentrate on picking rounds up to do this you need to stop being hit you don't get extra points for taking a shot well. Mayweather is an expert at this once he knows he has landed enough clean shots to be winning a round he will go into his shell for 60-90 seconds which means he is also able to land counters because his opponent realises he is down in the round so gets desperate which opens himself up.
Go through the fights he's lost and it's clear the reasons why he hasn't been given decisions. Lee Holmes, Andy Morris, Stephen Foster, Derry Matthews, Paul Appleby and Steve Smith were all unbeaten at the times. His other 'loss' was to Dazzo Williams when he was British champion. A kind of 'champion keeps the belt just about' type of decision. Simpson is probably the unluckiest and most under-appreciated boxer in the UK right now. Martin Lindsay, Stevie Bell, Paul Truscott, Yousseff Al Hamidi and Andy Morris are all quality domestic wins. Add Steve Smith, Paul Appleby, Dazzo Williams, Steve Foster and arguably Derry Matthews to that and he's easily the most accomplished boxer at domestic level.
Roe just ended this thread. If his defence was so bad then Smith should of had a wale of a time then......he clearly didn't find it that easy. I loved when John mentioned his Iron Chin!
What Roe said X2. And last night is not an issue because Simpson lost, it's how Terry O'Connor scored it. It was a close fight, yet he only saw 2 rounds of 12 for Simpson? Complete bull****/incompetence. That's the issue people have. If Simpson had lost 115-114 all round or something like that, no issue, but 118-112? Your having a laugh.
