Hopkins vs Jones Jr II is signed for early 2010. Before that, the stipulation is that Roy must go up to Cruiserweight and defeat Danny Green in Australia Dec. 2.

Now, I have 2 questions about this:

    1) Why would Roy risk a meg-fight with Hopkins by fighting a Green

    2) Is he fighting Hopkins at Light Heavyweight hence going up and down in weight again?

    3) How does Jones expect to fight only 2-3 months after Green?

    Here's what I think:

    A) Golden Boy and Hopkins want Jones JR to go to Australia and look impressive so that it gives more to the theory that Jones still has enough left to fight Hopkins. It will also increase Roy's name recognition in Australia and it's neighboring continents which will bode well for the Hopkins-Jones PPV internationally.

    B) Bernard has said he is only going to take a fight that pays him well and that he can get up for. Fighting JOnes will pay well because of the nostalgia and the hype up to the fight. This would easily be the best 24/7 ever with 2 ring legends with huge egos, big mouths, and colorful personalities as well as a bitter rivalry.

Also, it gives Hopkins a challenge in moving up to Cruiserweight to fight for the first time and for a title (albeit not one of the major ones)

    C) Hopkins may see this has a way to get acclimated at cruiserweight by taking what he may deem a warm-up for a potential unification match with Adamek if he beats Jones.

Either way, I can't see this fight happening before March or April.. especially since Hopkins is reported to be taking a tune-up in December that he also must win in order for this fight to come off.

    CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Green is ok, but Roy is stylistically all wrong for Green. Green got a lesson by Mundine and Roy and Mundine fight in similar ways. In fact an old Roy is probably at the level of Mundine when he beat Green.

I know Green and Jones gave their word of honour and Gent's agreement that that would be their next fight and Down Under, that seems enough said. Hopkins and GBP inc found that that would be a good fight for them and I believe Jones well promoted himself and a future showdown with Hopkins by stopping Lacy - a win over Green won't do him any further good. So, it's all business as usual and remember, it's early 2010 so it may well be Late April or even early May 2010... I believe it would be at a catchweight above 175 but not above 185 pounds and that's easy to do nowadays even if it is for a CW title. Hopkins would not be that interested in a CW title or Adamek since he already had that opportunity and remember also that Adamek is moving up as well.

Jones - Hopkins is going to be a disaster. It will be a lousy fight and the public won't care to buy the PPV. They have mis-calculated on this one. UNLESS it is offered on free network TV....then it will just be a lousy fight.

    1) RJ agreed to fight Green many months before RJ even agreed to fight Hopkins this last week. And RJ is getting paid handsomely to go down to Australia. They are calling it possibly the biggest fight ever down there. So lots of $$ for RJ.

    2) And don't get the notion that this fight is at CW. When Green fought on the undercard of the RJ/Lacy fight, he weighed in at 176 or so. So did his opponent. Technically, it was a CW fight but in reality, it was a LHW fight. My guess is that maybe Hopkins/RJ will agree to make it a CW fight and come in a lb or two over the limit to put the IBO belt on the line.

    3) Well, RJ is fighting in early December and he has to fight Hopkins early 2010. That could be as late as April. So that's 5 months. Not 2-3 months.

i think b-hop is a great fighter...but there has to be thoughts about how this man is delaying his aging process...this fight might not even take place because green just may knock roys ass out

Exactly. I mention this that Jones vs Green will most likely be at 180 pounds so losing 5 pounds vs Hopkins won't be a problem.
