He got to such a high standing despite not having a great record always got to me. He unofficially retired himself after the Calzaghe fight for nearly two prime years (bull**** dispute with Palle an Co.) He has overrated power. For someone with great physical attributes, he seems content to coast along, chilling out in Monaco. I'd be pleased to see him get some success in the Super Six just to fulfil some of that potential but equally I wouldn't be surprised to see him fade out of the international boxing scene.
Some pretty great assumptions you've made from behind a keyboard. He didn't 'want' to unofficially retire and nor does he 'coast along' in Monaco, its simply a means of keeping most of the money he earnt as opposed to having it pillaged by the Danish tax system.
One thing that I have noticed is that the Kessler fans are a classy bunch, maybe the most classy fans of any fighter, its not his fans that are the problem, its the ones that are closet Calzaghe fans that are the problem. Those clowns are Calzaghe fans that are wanting to use the success of Kessler to drag Calzaghe to greatness. Those that are true Kessler fans, and that I mean the ones that wanted Kessler to beat Calzaghe and didnt bad mouth him going into that matchup. The ones that are doing all the cring know are the same ones that was bad mouthing him pre-Calzaghe:hey
Kessler will bounce back and win the tournament. The cuts over both eyes just made things look worse than they were and he was still going to have no problem making it to the end of the fight. Can't wait to see him prove his numerous doubters wrong. Adaptability will be far less of an issue with over a year until any Ward rematch. He might well pummell the excellent Ward next time around. One off night doesn't make a great fighter mediocre. He'll be back throwing numerous right hands, double jabs, hook and uppercuts in no time. There was clearly something up with him last weekend.
