I see that some of you guys were apparently unable to make sense of this thread. I didn't post the White champions because I don't view it as them winning the belt (at least not until Vitali gets a belt), I view it as the pictured guys losing it.

P.S. Congrats, T. Stout, on being able to make the connection. You are among the minority.

Sam Peter and Calvin Brock were never champions.

He said that there will never be a white heavyweight champion. Call me crazy, but what he said never was true and never will be.

Actually, Larry was as good as he believed he was. His in-the-ring smarts far exceeded those of many so-called greats including Muhammad Ali. In his prime, Larry may well have beaten any heavyweight ever (in their prime) without devastating knockout power. His ring generalship was virtually unparallelled and therein lay the key to his success.

I know, but they both fought White guys for the championship and lost. I doubt that Larry could have ever conceived that. Plus they're supposed to be among the best of the heavyweights.

Rocky beat one(ONE) legitimate contender namely Roland LaStarza add to that a bunch of former and washed up champions. It is clear the guy was never beaten!

There is one part that I think you are missing...Larry also said "as long as Black fighter are fighting like they are...there will never..." So you can't ignore a condition on the statement he presented. Besides he lived in an era that was more racially charged than today so it makes no sense to discuss things that are brought out of context like that interview. Today is a new day and a new age so technically the comparison isn't there to make. If you really want to be techno about the whole situation...:deal

Maybe the black fighters of today are fighting as they were then ( the era Holmes dominated in was nothing spectacular, either), its just that now, the Europeans have finally gotten the chance to prove their dominance, where they never had the chance back in the era Holmes was in.........?

You can also look at it like that, as well. :good
