Cooney gave Holmes one of his toughest fights in his prime.Holmes also fought in weak era.

    I love Holmes' style.

Absolutely...:good Only time will tell that doesnt tell you anything because things always change...Europeons may rule for an era and then Cubans make a run at it then people will say they never had a chance... It does seem that everyone who is denied a chance comes in a rules for quite some time. Black fighters were basically denied the opportunity until Joe Louis then made a run at it from Joe through Lewis. I dont think is really a matter of race that people make it out to be. Or nationality...

The modern era of professional boxing is the most globalized it has ever been. Holmes and the rest of "historical greats" were protected from true global competition. So the closest thing to a true "world champion" is actually contemporary fighters.

Larry Holmes was an excellent champion, but I don't like him.

I enjoy watching the Tyson fight, his 7th round against Shavers, the KD against Snipes, Weaver giving him hell, Terrible Tim going even with him, and the legendary Spinks beating him the first time (rematch was a robbery).

Yeah, Cooney was competitive, and hurt Holmes to the body (and the nutsack). Given the way people talk about Cooney, I was surprised by watching the fight how well he performed.

I think Norton and Weaver gave Holmes the toughest fights in Holmes's prime. At least throughout the course of the fight. Snipes and Shavers (rematch) had Holmes in serious trouble, but Weaver and Norton had success throughout the fight instead of a round or 2.

I didn't count the Williams or Witherspoon fights, he was aging and on the decline by then.

    I had Witherspoon ahead 115-114.

Correct but Holmes and the others were not responsible for other countries allowing their amateurs to turn pro. You fight who's there to be fought at the time.
