id rate it as one of, if not Mikes best win,

Holmes proved throughout his whole career he was incredibly difficult to be stopped.

on another note Mccall was definitly a tremendous puncher if he landed solidly.

The win is a little underrated but Larry was definitely over the hill. Tyson has said this himself. I still think Tyson would have beaten any version of Holmes.

yeah even so Larry proved that he was far from past it he went on to beat Mercer, and lose decisions to great fighters when he was much older.

    after 15 years more boxing

Tyson still remains the only man to ever stop Larry.

Its not hard to understand his point....

That tyson stopping Holmes is a bigger achievment then hes given credit for (in the thread starters opinion)

Holmes hadn't fought in years and was in terrible condition when he fought Tyson. He looked like a pathetic shell of his former greatness. This fight is a measure of nothing.

Larry is a great fighter, but he fought a prime Tyson then.

He hadnt fought in a couple years before that fight. He was rusty and overweight. tyson obviously can punch, but that fight proved nothing we didnt already know. I think two years earlier it would have been a different story.

I dont get why everyone is being so bitchy with the thread starter. Its a good topic for discussion IMO.

I have thought about the same thing, because we seen Holmes absolutely destroyed in his late 30s by Tyson and everyone saying he was ancient but he goes on to have fights with Holyfield and the rest so many years later and was never stopped. If anything its showing that young Tyson was on another level than Holyfeld and Mercer and that Holmes had a hell of a chin though we already knew that from the Shavers fight.

TS would probably had better luck in the classic forum, I dont get why everyone thinks there has to be an agenda or some kind of point, its supposed to be a discussion.

When Holmes fought Tyson he'd been retired for 2 years and had done NO training. He got dragged into the ring in NO kind of shape for the Tyson fight. He has said that he knew at the time he had no chance of winning in that condition. I'm not saying he'd have won if he'd had time to train...he was pretty old by then, but he'd have looked a lot better.

He then fought some good fights AFTER fighting Tyson......but he was trained and in shape for those fights. if you didn't know this it would be easy to read too much into his loss to Tyson.
