if lewis is so bad, why did bowe and tyson run from him in 2 of the biggest duckings in the history of heavyweight boxing?
tyson was too scared to get in the ring when he was in his prime..he'd rather pay millions in step-aside money:deal and holyfield may not have been in his prime...but he was'nt far from it.
I don't think many people are saying lewis is 'so bad' I just think a lot of us feel he is overrated. I mean, look at the 60's and 70's heavyweight division. Beating up tua/old tyson/escaping with a lucky vitali win/rahman after a flash ko? None of that **** equates to top 10 in my opinion... top 15-20? sure... but top 10??? ever???
duran, pacman, odlh, quite a few atg's have been finished by one punch.dare i even say rjj suffered this. as for fighting even with holyfield, you just be a boxrec warrior, because anyone seeing the fights knos that lewis clearly won both fights. he is a HW ATG, definitley top 10. he cleaned out the division, and one that was stacked with huge names.
you know lewis' victory resume runs way deeper than that. you run me through joe fraziers victory resume?
Lennox Lewis is not an ATG because he was knocked out, etc...this is boxing. If you are knocked out, you are knocked out...it doesn't make a difference if you are knocked out via accumilation, or by 1 punch. It's how you come back from these defeats that define certain boxers. Lewis beat everyone he stepped in the ring against as a Professional. Pacquiao has been knocked out twice...is he not an ATG? Your theory is flawed...'Lewis was knocked out, and had a close bout with Holyfield (an ATG)...which means he doesn't belong on the list...bollocks!!
Exactly. Roberto Duran got knocked out cold in 2 rounds, and never avenged the defeat, and he is one of the greatest fighters in history. Same with Roy Jones. This thread is bull****.
I have to say I disagree with you. Basically, you don't think he's an ATG because he had close bouts with Holyfield and got knocked out twice... you're also ignoring the fact that he avanged both of those defeats, and pretty much beat Holyfield clearly. yes, the mercer bout is awfully close, but Lewis still won it in my eyes. you are seriously underrating him IMO. Lewis is a solid top 20 heavyweight and top 10 in my eyes. he should be recognized as one of the beat heavyweight champions out there. also, head to head... he blows away most champions, bar Ali, holmes, liston, foreman, and Louis. he is a great fighter and if you can't recognize that then you need to go watch his bouts with rudduck, Bruno, Rahman 2, mccall 2, and even against Botha. he displays good technical skill, handspeed, power, and ring intelligence. smarten up. Lewis was great.
You're obviously not British. But that's besides the point. To me, it's extremely important that Lewis avenged both his losses. To be able to say you beat every man you faced as a heavyweight is amazing.
X2. The old adage is that a man can only beat who he faces and lewis not only faced, but beat them all. Never ducked anyone. Fought more #1 contenders than most heavyweight champs in the past 35yrs. 3 time champ also? i fail to see what the problem is in giving the man some recognition.
Of course he is, now go play video games and eat candy until you've grown pubes and known the touch of a woman.
