I don't give into wishful thinking or hypothetic wins.

    His resume is his resume.
It's not a top 10 ATG HW career in my opinion. It comes up a little shy.

That's another problem comparing the heroes from 50 or 75 years ago with our era. In the 80s - 90s we had 3 alphabet soup titles, now we have 4.

Back in the 50s and 60s it was next impossible to avoid match-ups. Either you are champ or you're not. If you want to be champ you either beat "the man" or you don't. Today fighters can be avoided much more easily.

Bowe never felt forced to fight Lewis because he could simply throw the WBC belt in the bin and fight for another belt without losing a significant portion of his revenue stream.

I think today it is much easier to end up with a 2nd rate resume even though you are an exceptional boxer of your time and although you may have 'wanted' to box the best of your era. Lewis is a victim of the alphabet soup mess to an extend, possibly Vitali as well. I think that should be considered when looking at the quality of opposition in a fighter's career.

He was not 'nearly knocked out'. That gets spouted so much and it's absolute horse****.

This is exactly the sort of absurd attitude that prompts threads like this. Lewis is not even undeniably top ten. That anyone would say he is a no doubt about it top five just shows how ridiculously overrated he is by some.

Just because he was big doesnt take away from his career.
He beat everyone put infront of him, a very rare feat. And the other famous HW to do that wouldn't have got near him, and you have him in your list.

OH please. All you offer is the usual litany of excuses for Lewis, which as always, involves trying to blame all the OTHER guys for his not facing them (Bowe or Moorer) or facing them when they were old and ready to be taken (like Holyfield and Tyson).

And nationalism has NOTHING to do with it. If you knew anything about my political views you'd know I hate nationalism. The issue is that Holyfield, and more arguably, Tyson, were simply better fighters. You never saw them sparked out early by second raters.

Tyson got sparked out early by Danny ****ing Williams, how much more second rate can it get :huh OK Holyfield didn't get sparked early but getting KO'd by Toney with a body shot is far, far more embarrassing than either of Lewis's losses. I mean, Toney was a murderous puncher at HW wasn't he :rofl:rofl:rofl
