Why Lifting Weights Won't Increase Punching Power

    I'm interested in any sources you can provide that show an actual decrease in the time it takes a muscle to contract after weight training. I have seen plenty of people saying that, but never could find an actual scientific study on it. Thanks.

    I believe the bench press can add some power to a punch, but not nearly as much as a plyometric lift, like maybe a split jerk or clean and jerk. Bench presses would not be efficient enough for me to focus on them though. You could get more bang for your buck doing something else.

    This may sound completely against every training principle known but I have experienced situations where functional strength was not needed but isolated strength was e.g. fighting somebody in the back seat of a car for example, atypical, yes, but it happens.
