Doesn't matter, just take a look at Pacquiao's last three fights, they are all MAJOR step ups. One easy fight is reasonable at this point especially when all know he was ready to fight Mayweather. This is a good fight.
You act like those last 3 fights were a tough battle lol. If Pacquiao is the greatest then he don't need easy tune ups.
GL: What's the Mayweather camp's deadline? BA: "On Monday we're going to make a deal with Lou and Malignaggi and we're going to put a deal together with the same kind of procedures in place for Manny's next fight, and that'll shut up Malignaggi also. He's been keeping quiet now because he doesn't want to blow a fight, but that's fine. Either way, I'm sure he'll be satisfied."
I was just gonna ask your take on the potential Pac-Malignaggi fight, anyway, my 2 cents. (responses are ordered #ed following what I colored in red) #1. Questionable, but I wouldn't completely rule out that possibility as HBO promotes the heck out of their big time fights, so on that alone it could get 800,000 but that's being overly optimistic. HBO can paint a nice picture with Paulie on the road to redemption and trying to get vengeance by beating someone in Pac who stopped 2 men that defeated him. but at the end of the day is Malignaggi-Pacquiao really all that compelling of a fight? even if promoted to the best of it's ability. because Paulie can and probably will run his mouth a lot on the 24-7's but coming from someone who's lost in big fights vs Cotto and Hatton .. big deal. They say talk is cheap for a reason. #2. I recognize Cotto or Hatton vs Paulie aren't the same as Pacquiao vs Paulie. but who said Paulie would get stopped in 3? I'll agree with what you said regarding the match up, that Paulie can certainly give Pac some issues. but since he doesn't have much power behind his punches, how realistic are Malignaggi's chances at victory? #3. it very well could turn out that way, but with Pac's seemingly improved punching power at the higher weights, and knack for punishing opponents, a late knockout with Paulie accusing Pacquiao of performance enhancers in the post fight interview is my predicted outcome. fire back when ready.
:-( Pac did around 250k ppv buys against David Diaz and that was before Oscar, Hatton, Cotto, the Time Magazine cover, and the commercial media coverage of the ongoing PED testing controversy. Add a slick, fast talking Italian American New Yorker who's been outspoken about his beliefs that Pac has been doping then I think it's safe to say that you're greatly underestimating the type of attention that this fight would command. Again, I'm not advocating this fight by no means but I can easily see that Pac could do much worst from a business standpoint than fighting Malignaggi.
Bob Arum doesnt give a **** who Pac fights- he's already got a fight pencilled in just 4 months after cotto and still thinks the Floyd fight can happen in september.
^ okay who cares where he's from (Paulie) a smack talker who lost his biggest fights (Cotto, Hatton) is running his mouth about Pacquiao Paulie might have a fan base but he doesn't demand the fans interest like a DLH or a Cotto fight would Paulie might get a lot of attention running his mouth .. but will it translate to PPV buys?
All valid points....The one thing paulie has going for him, is he is not going to be in front of pacquiao at all times, when he does get rocked he holds...The common denominator in al of pacquiao's recent opponents is they stand and trade, paulie wont being doing a lot of that....he has decent countering abilities which can trouble pacquiao...and pacquiao is not hard to hit with a jab, paulie's best weapon....I think the smart pick is pacquiao by late stoppage....I have read many post from others saying paulie doesnt see round 5.... Say what yo uwant to about bob arum, but he takes pride putting on quality cards....If he thought this fight was a joke as many make it out be, I don't think arum would seriously consider this fight.... Give i the 24/7 treatment, which all the 24/7 is, is a program to hype the underdog...thye made hatton look like a god against floyd in their 24/7... Then arum's promotional cash along with HBO...I think it could do well at the box office... People said Marquez-mayweather would bomb, it did great...People said it would be hard for cotto-pacquiao to hit 1 Mil buys....and it did 1 Mil....Your right I might be optimistic but I could see it at least hitting minimum 700,000, but I wouldnt be suprised if it hit 800,000 or higher, with the large pacquiao fan base....Promote it hard in the New York media market and other major cities....and stack the undercard to help the sales...just like they did for mayweather-marquez...
He's fight Paulie for 2 obvious reasons. 1) He's a Low risk, high reward fight that fights similar enough to Mayweather to be a tuneup. 2) He's the other guy who accused him of riods. Paulie's mouth might have gotten him his fight. Good for him, I hope he wipes the floor with Pac-man.
sorry for the quick comeback, and I promise I'll leave more time in between. your right that Pacquiao might be easy to hit with the jab, but most fighters that hit him brought some power behind it ... i.e JMM or Cotto, and power is a big intangible when talking about slowing Pacquiao, because if you don't have the power it won't keep your opponent honest case in point .. Paulie hit Hatton and even Ngoudjo with plenty of jabs but couldn't maintain the distance because both fighters walked through his punches (**admittedly vs Herman Paulie did break his hand) still in my other example of Paulie vs Hatton .. Ricky is one of the easier fighters to hit in boxing Paulie landed his jab plenty of times yet Hatton kept on trucking. so I ask what stops Pacquiao from doing the same thing, if he isn't hurt/bothered by the jabs Arum might take pride in putting on Quality cards .. fair point This content is protected This content is protected and I think that speaks for itself regarding his "quality" and lets not forget David Diaz was thrown to the wolves as a main event PPV to Pacquiao just one year ago (soon to be 2 years though). I won't go as far as calling Malignaggi-Pacquiao a "joke" it's just a fight I see along the lines of a David Diaz type opponent so to speak, with the only difference is Paulie happens to be a bit more talented + better ring technician .. still though I think we'll ultimately agree that weather it's David Diaz Malignaggi or Foreman ... all 3 fights are one sided (on paper at least) how they'll play out (Foreman or Paulie) remains to be seen. I am not calling Paulie-Pac a joke though .. for the record. if it's signed I'll be a bit unhappy, but the reason why stated above yeah very true about 24/7, but the way the series has been going, most of the shows have been more compelling then the actual fights, lol. and that trend certainly could continue with Malignaggi vs Pacquiao and I already know how they'd hype Paulie .... Jim Lampley voiceover: "he lost to Cotto and Hatton who were the last two opponents of Manny Pacquiao, and both wound up TKO victims. Now Malignaggi is moving up to Welterweight to try and beat the best fighter in the world" .... ^ trust me, it'll go something like that. that's how 24-7 rolls. and as for JMM-Floyd .. true it did sell well, but again I respond with the compelling factor .. Floyd's big return off the layoff. and a good under card to boot plus throw in the extra hype from the fight being @ movie theaters (I went to one) and you have all the good publicity you need to hype up a fight .. but IMO the biggest reason JMM-Floyd it did well was what I bolded as for Cotto-Pacquiao it didn't have a great under card to go with it or super publicity (besides the 24-7) but lets not forget. even casual boxing fans who've seen minimal Cotto or Pac fights know both men have This content is protected Cotto-Judah, Cotto-Clottey, Cotto-Gomez (while it lasted) Cotto-Margarito .. and that's This content is protected of the main event guys .. lets not forget Pac's 2 fights vs JMM, David Diaz you get the idea ... one exciting fighter in a PPV main event is good, but put 2 together and I'd be surprised if the fight sold under a million so with all that in mind, for a Malignaggi-Pacquiao PPV I'd put the minimum buys at 500,000 just because the Trinidad-Jones fight sold around that much and that was a terrible mismatch but sold simply because of the names. so despite Pacquiao's big fan base I dunno if the opponent can be worthy enough to get that 800,000. Top Rank would really have to stack the undercard ... put at least one maybe 2 title fights on the card.
