A prime Floyd has shown consistent trouble against average southpaws and now he's no longer prime and about to step into the ring with one of the best southpaws of all time.
Also notice how Mayweather once again covers up and falls back to the ropes when an opponent starts hitting him. He doesn't engage, but goes entirely defensive. Pacquiao throws 14 punch combinations, and if Floyd covers up too much he is not going to be able to outpoint Pacquiao, like Teddy Atlas said a few days ago. Mayweather is going to have to stand there and fight.
Nope he wont, Floyd was just letting Ortiz hit him to make the fight interesting and to entertain the fans.
Are you kidding me? Floyd himself would disagree with you. If your reasoning was Floyd was letting himself get hit, so the fight was interesting than you are in denial. No way, no way Floyd would risk getting injured, KO, lose to please the fans. "I work smarter, not harder." "The less you're hit, the longer you last in the sport." "I do what's best for Floyd Mayweather." "I'm an artist in the ring. I paint broken noses, busted faced. But that doesn't look good on me." If Mayweather ever says he "let" himself get hit, it was to create the perception that he is still unstoppable, unbreakable because everything was under his control. When in fact, he was simply getting HIT.
Disagree. It's a boxing match. Yes, Floyd has been punched before. Manny hasn't had a KO since 2009. He couldn't KO Chris Algieri, but now he's just going to destroy Floyd Mayweather according to some? A guy who's never had an official knockdown from a punch in his entire career? Sorry, but I like to think logically. Floyd isn't just going to fall over when Manny hits him. That chin question has been answered a long time ago. Let's just say Floyd has a much better chin than his Uncle Roger did. Whoever can control distance will win the fight. I have no doubt that it'll be Floyd. Speed will be a non-factor, neither man will have a significant advantage either way. It will come down to footwork and fundamentals.
Agree :good I do think speed is important though since Mayweather isn't that experienced fighting very fast fighters, let alone with a speed advantage. And to the power, Pacquiao's power is still dangerous. He still hurt iron-chinned Bradley and knocked down Algieri 6 times, a guy who Provodnikov could only KD twice. If Bradley rates Pac's current power an 8/10 and Ruslan's a 10/10... It shows Pacquiao's power is still dangerous. A clean straight left hand thrown perfectly could still put any opponent on their back. I truly believe that. And if Floyd can control distance, he will definitely win. I agree.
Give me a break. Pacquiao will have a hard time landing 2 and 3 punch combinations let alone 14. I think he will become frustrated from not being able to connect often. Pacquiao has not faught anyone nearly as sharp defensively as Mayweather. That being said, Manny is an ATG and no ATG can be counted out. Mannys level of aggressiveness will define the excitement of the fight. If he can pressure Mayweather and stay very active all 12 rds the two can make it a classic. However, if Manny decides to pick his spots and and box more as he has recently he will be falling right into Mayweather's game.
Floyd blatantly contradicts his steroid allegations in that interview. He says that he and Manny are the same size and both weighed 106 when they were 16 year old fight, yet in other interviews he uses Manny's small size starting point as evidence that he roided to get so big.
You missed my point. What I'm saying is Pacquiao is extremely active and is a combination power-puncher. If Floyd Mayweather covers up too much because of the pressure from Pacquiao's "punches in bunches" then he will get outpointed. Also, watch the first 20 seconds of this video. https:// www . youtube . com/watch?v=EzJT8pwd-pM Like the video w/ Ortiz showed, Floyd Mayweather, when he gets caught or has a ton of punches being thrown at his face, will throw up the high guard (especially against southpaws) and walk straight back to the ropes. The video I showed is what's going to happen if Floyd Mayweather covers up to the ropes the same way as he's done in all fights when he gets overwhelmed. Pacquiao is one of the best offensive fighters at splitting a high guard, so Floyd cannot, CANNOT, ever be on the ropes. I just fear though that... with the version of Floyd we've seen in the past 2 Maidana fights, he will end up getting on the ropes a little bit in the later rounds like he did against Maidana due to tired, aging legs. 1) Pacquiao does his best work in the later rounds 2) Pacquiao does his best work when his opponents on the ropes Extremely dangerous fight for Floyd Mayweather. Also, I think people will be surprised how often Pacquiao lands on him.
I disagree. We are definately going to see Mayweather get hit it is inevitable and we are probably going to see Pacquiao throwing flurries at Floyd while on the ropes BUT remember Floyd adapts faster than anyone in the sport. He will be figuring Pacquiao out sooner or later and Pacquiao is wide open when he throws combinations Mayweather will land shots on his head like lasers
We can all make points by showing how Mayweather did against southpaws or how Pacquiao did against Marquez. Fact is they are fighting eachother and Floyd is the most intelligent fighter in the world if Floyd does not get old over night (he has shown signs in Maidana fight) then you should expect a Mayweather win Gatti like style. There is no way an in shape Floyd loses to a fighter like Pacquiao who makes so many defensive mistakes, expect Mayweathers team to study Marquez fights and if Floyd is in tip top shape he will do to Pacquiao what he did to Gatti
Mayweather will eventually go to the ropes and very soon, that's when we will see if Pacquiao can take advantage of his position.
We'll have to see about that. I think Floyd knows he must keep the fight in the center of the ring and will do just that. Ortiz couldn't land a damn thing. Mayweather will pick his shots and use lateral movement.
