Margarito is another weight division for another title, more history making there. Marquez is someone Pacquiao already beat.

Marquez is someone who lost to Pacquiao debatably, and drew with him the time before that. IT DOES demand a rubber match. Margarito lucked into this because Bob Arum loves to double dip. I guess it's good in a way not to have to deal with another promoter to get things done, but Arum's choices always smack more of pocket lining than trying to make quality matches for the fans (though you could argue he does reach out to fans by favoring big arenas over the casino circuit).

Winning the 154lb title by making your opponent fight at 151lbs is not making history. It's just making money.

Boring. He should be fighting Mayweather on November 13th - roll with the punches, people.

But he's not, Dan. So you're OK with Margarito at a catchweight over Marquez?

The author makes a good point about differentiating the catchweight with Cotto and this fight:

Margo is a career welterweight, if it wasn't for a bogus title being on the line, no one would have an issue with it. Love the sudden outpouring of sympathy for Margarito.

Marquez, was the best option??? At what weight??? The author doesn't state that, does he... Pacquiao isn't going to fight below 140lb and Marquez hasn't proven his legitimacy above 135. Marquez had a CHANCE to make his case by fighting a good 140lb and beating him, but instead he went with Katsidis. I have no desire to see a BLOATED Marquez (that hasn't proven his effectiveness above 135lb) fight Pacquiao. You might, but I don't The PERSON I wanted Pacquiao to fight is on an extended vacation...

    same here.

I can't really understand why people keep on insisting that marquez was the better option than margo. Yeah I understand margo don't deserve the high profile fight, but compare to a marquez fight, its more challenging, new weight, height advantage plus the styles of both fighters which makes it more interesting.

What are you talking about? The author specifically questions whether he deserved the fight in the first place.

He does. He said if not 147, somewhere around 144, which was where Floyd was supposed to fight Juanma before he chickened out.
