He may not be a cash cow but I'm gonna throw down some cash to go see him fight Marquez because I just think this will be a good fight.
hmmm... that could explain the psychology a bit. I mean, who would like a guy stuffing his money in your face at a time when most people are on their way to broke. Especially in boxing which has for the most part been a poor man's sport (compared to golf or tennis that is).
Don't get me wrong I think Maywether is one helluva fighter, but what I think put people off is that he hype his fights like he is in WWE then he would be on his bicycle the entire fight. A testamet to this would be the Dela Hoya fight, where in the build up was more exciting than the actual fight.
The thing that frustrates me is that I think he could actually be as great as says he is - a top 20 all time fighter and a Ray Leonard of our era. The door was right there for him to to be a great after the DLH fight, there were heaps of hot fighters like Cotto and Mosely who he could have beat, but instead he chose to retire and brag about money. It's an insult to boxing the way he talks. It's already a sport that's seen as quasi-corrupt and just perpetuates the bad image. It's good that he's come back, tho, I hope this '5 fight deal' is actually true and some of his fights a real tests.
