Its unfortunate but this seems to be the only way. Money is the root to all evil and it seems its also the root to a much needed fight.
exactly my point...if cotto is sooo unproven ..and can't put noooobody in the seats ...why don't the great money mayweather give this young up start a fight ..and use it as a tune up until his next big match???
If you're not being sarcastic, then tell me who are these so called "more proven fighters" that Cotto must defeat to get a shot. Let's see. I'll list them for you. Margarito-had his chance to fight Cotto but lost to P Williams P Williams- was on his way until he got slapped around by Quintana Clottey-over rated and hasnt beaten ANYONE Kermit-cried like a baby Quintana-nuff said Judah-been there, done that Mosley-the most decorated of all the welterweights and Cotto already beat him Berto-un and comer Come on now, NONE of the top 10 welters are more highly regarded as Cotto
I didn't know a guy was proven off of two notable wins ... especially over a guy who was 1-3-0 1NC w/ losses against PBF, Baldomir, Spinks, and a no contest. Judah was also inactive for 400 days prior to his fight w/ Cotto. Mosley is 36yrs old and over the hill ... both of those guys were safe bets ... Mosley was going to do enough just to show that he wasn't completely washed up and Judah wasn't going to do much but fight to survive. I guess those guys are great wins ... When you look deeper into it ... those wins are nothing special ...
What I dont understand is how some of the people here downplay Floyd's win over Hatton a few months back. Before the fight was made, a lot of people were saying that Floyd should take the fight as Hatton is unbeaten and in his prime and would give Floyd all he could handle. After the fight, you hear some people say that Hatton is a blown up junior welterweight. Cotto does not need to prove himself. Im a Floyd fan and I want this fight badly. But to say that Floyd is ducking Cotto is just crap. As long as the price is right, I believe, Floyd would fight Cotto.
...... one more time ...even slower .....so you'll get the picture... Iffff ... Cotttttoooo....is soooo ...unnnnprooooven....and hes ...sooo...unnnnsaleable.... then whyyyy ....doooont flooooyd ...giiiive hiiiiim aaaa tunnnnne upppp ....likkkke flooooyd diiiid ...wiiiith....bruuuuussles... surely you understand now
Some, not all Floyd fans, just dont get it. They want to condone these ridiculous excuses made by Floyd. If they were true fans, they would be hounding Floyds ass to make the best fights out there. I want to know how many of these floyd fans actually want to see him fight DLH or Hatton again. Think about it, they will sit here all day and say he is going to beat them again with no problems. So why do they want to see it again. Why wouldnt they want to see their boy "easily beat" Cotto just to shut people up. why are they so concerned about FLoyd's pockets? He isn't concerned about theirs. As a cotto fan, I'd be pissed if he wasnt fighting risky fights. I dont want to see him in fights I know he is going to win all the time. I want to see him challenged. Just because I'm a Cotto fan doesnt mean he would get a free pass if he was doing the same stuff FLoyd is doing.
:huh He has to fight someone other than the two guys he's getting so much credit for. Those were two safe picks and live underdogs at best. He has to fight someone else ... Margarito v Cintron winner would be a good start ... I know fighting Gomez doesn't grant anything ... especially if he manages to lose.
floyd is a boring fighter...not only is he a boring fighter ...but he's a chump .. he comes from nice ass grand rapids and claims hood ... hes everything these wanna be 50 cent fans should hate ...yet they love him! ...why?... because hes undeafeated ...
so cotto has to fight the winner out of two fighters who floyd fans have claimed have ZERO chance in beating floyd ...yet that gives cotto merrit to fight floyd ... just checking
Yet, that same fighter you refer to won 3 of the first 4 rounds against Mayweather along with the 12th, unofficially dropped him in the 3rd, and hurt him in the 4th. Mosley at least had wins over Estrada, Cruz, Vargas 2x, and Luis Collazo. While Oscar had fought 6 rounds in 3 years, 2 fights removed from being KO'd and 3 from being awarded a gift decision against Felix Sturm. Yet, Floyd only managed to beat him by split decision. What is it exactly that Floyd has done lately that is "special" or exempts him from being challenged by the top fighters in the division he supposedly reigns?
Come on now FITZ!!! Let's stop with the mosley is old talk. He still posed mnore of a threat than a partime fighter/promoteer in DLH. Also, you didnt answer my question. Who exactly should Cotto fight to earn his shot. Why should he fight the fighter also?
Floyd doesn't have to fight this guy ... I don't know why you guys think that his legacy won't be set until he fights Cotto. This guy has been a champion since 98' and he can retire for good if he wants. Bruseles was a tune up in anticipation to fight for a title at a higher weight class. There's no other bigger star in the game than DLH ... Cotto isn't on that level and has a long way to go. Whats wrong with Floyd fighting guys that are on his level and have been in the game as long as he's been. Cotto just stepped on the scene and hasn't really fought anyone at the top of their game ... If this guy steps into the ring w/ PBF ... he loses.:hi:
