The Japanese only invented the game.

Pacman himself is Albanian, with a smattering of Dutch on his mother's side -fullstop-

Not necessarily. There's thousands of years of history for contact sports and fighting in China.

I just think that boxing hasn't been promoted as heavily in China as the other major western sports and so, has zero cultural impact over there. The NBA for instance, basketball being predominantly an American sport, has been pushing itself in China for years with talent recruiting, sending teams overseas to play exhibition and preseason games, and endorsements, has become huge in China. I was in China for part of the summer and from observation, basketball has replaced football as the playground sport of choice.

It's probably unfair to compare boxing to the NBA because their structures are so different and each countries' boxing scene seems to run on their own. But I'm sure we're not going to see any major boxing cards in China soon.

Calling Pacquiao Chinese would be more than just calling Cotto Mexican. It would be calling Cotto British. And Injin Chi isn't Chinese either.

Boxing might as well not exist in China. Same with India. Two largest countries in the world aren't even aware that the sport exists, for the most part. China at least sends people to the Olympics in boxing, but there's very little support for the sport in general in China.

Sports just aren't nearly as big in China as they are in most of the West anyway. I was over there less than a month ago, and other than world champions (like that hurdler), table tennis, volleyball and basketball, they really seem to give a rat's behind about sports, at least in the area near Beijing. The Olympics are viewed there as more of a cultural event than a sporting event.

The Chinese are crazy about table tennis (Ping Pong). It's a traditional sport and is the most popular sport in China. China dominates table tennis like Roger Federer dominates Tennis.

As far as boxing. They don't have any boxing tradition, but if they would manage to get one big star in the future then a lot of more fighters would follow.
