There are many photos of earlier Sullivan Kilran. There are some of Corbett Fitz. Other than what's mentioned above I have never seen any of the above.

There wasn't much financial incentive to take pictures of the action back then. Newspapers weren't routinely illustrating their stories with photographs because they were difficult to add to newsprint and couldn't be transmitted quickly across the country like text could be by telegraph.

None of the three local newspapers I've seen were using photographs at the time of Sullivan-Corbett. I was surprised to see the drawings in next-day Times-Democrat though, they had two pictures of Sullivan with no moustache.

The technology for photographing in that era made it less than ideal to take pictures of boxing. those old cameras had very long exposure times meaning that ideally the subject had to remain absolutely still or the photo would come out blurred or the subjects might not even appear (there is a famous old photo taken of a busy street during the 1800s. when the photo was developed the street was empty except for one person. why? everyone else was walking, heading somewhere, but that one man was standing on a corner waiting for a carriage.) This is why you see square off photos so often, even early, but less action shots. you also needed more light to expose the film so if you are taking photos at an indoor fight club that isnt well lit the chances are iffy at best for action shots. its really remarkable that there are action shots of sullivan kilrain and taken from three different photographers. my suspicion is that they had very expensive equipment abd probably took quite a lot of shots in order to be able to get some good ones.

Ill throw one out there: jack johnson vs jim johnson. ive never seen a photo of that fight. ive looked all over and the only thing i can come up with is that the langford-jeanette fight monopolized the coverage. you can find tons of photos of that fight in newspapers and magazines across europe but none on johnson-johnson.
