Mike Weaver was a great win for Holmes as Weaver went on to win a title.Berbick was a good win as not only did he go on to win a title but he ended up being the first fighter to beat Greg Page. And Holmes beat Berbick handily.Same with James Smith who latter won a title as well.
Holmes was supposedly "ducking" Page,Thomas, and yet they have losses to boxers that Holmes beat easily.

As i've said countless times Holmes opposition was fine up until Witherspoon scare, then Holmes started picking easier opposition, so he could break Marciano's record as he felt he was getting older at that point.

A few things to point out the Coetzee fight could of happened, but there was some issues and it was neither Holmes or Coetzee's fault that it didn't happen. But Holmes should've fought Page in 83 after Witherspoon fight, and Thomas sometime between 84-85.

Overall Holmes was a great champion and H2H he rates highly. A few questionable challengers in his final 2 and a bit years as champion. But i certainly don't think its a case of Holmes being a coward, it was more to do with Holmes aging at that point.

Would you say that Tysons exciting style helped ppl look at him more favorable too? Ngl I would b pissed paying for a fight either showing up at the venue or at home/someone else's home only for him to finish it quickly lol.

Nobody talk crap? Well, Holmes was vs robbed in Spinks II. His resume isn't excellent, but it not his fault he did not fight Foreman in the 70's. I say he beats him and if that happens people will need to re-shuffle the rankings! Foreman ducked Holmes in the 1990's!

Ppl respect Holmes greatly on here even if not fans of him. I think ppl not having his dominance n more time passing to assess his wins has done wonders for him. Especially when there really aren't much heavyweights that u can put next to him afterwards as far as accolades. A H2H nightmare in prime stages n rightful ATG. Even an older Holmes did well for himself.

Or he fought Cooney in 1982, Witherspoon in 1983, Smith in 1984,and Spinks in 1985. This is good title opponents for and older champion. Politics made matches hard for Coetzee and Thomas who was on the WBC side of things.

Holmes fought the likes of Marvis Frazier, Scott Frank, instead of Greg Page who was number 1 contender. And Thomas was also far more deserving than Bonecrusher, Williams, Bey.

I already stated Holmes took on softer opposition because he was aging, but that doesn't change the fact their were far more deserving opponents at that time.

I personally just really like watching him fight, which is a big factor. Holmes vs. Norton is probably my favorite heavyweight fight ever, at least up there. I've heard some say he was a "bridge champion," he's really high all time for me but I see how that could be the case. Just around between two times of greater fighters. I think having Cooney be his big defining fight of his time was kind of lackluster. Beating a really flat, old, and frankly sad version of Ali and keeping it as a marquee win is more of a stain than a trophy. The Tex Cobb fight made Cosell retire and was an ugly fight. Fought Brian Nielsen and Butterbean. Is one of Tyson's top highlights in every video intro of his ever.

I have him H2H very high, because I think he possesses every skill needed to beat every style of heavyweight. I can see the case for criticizing his resume a bit though, especially with a few razor close wins.

Holmes has a solid resume but it's unspectacular in the main. The Ali win doesn't impress me for obvious reasons.

The reason why I rate Holmes so highly is because he passes the eye test with flying colours, and he was metronomically consistent. I actually think Wlad's resume is in some ways better than Holmes but Wlad has the knocks of having several losses in his physical prime. Holmes never came close to losing until he was washed up.

Coetzee was the fight I wanted to see, but due to the apartheid politics of the day it never happened.
By the way I think Holmes would have stopped him around the 10th,,

Page, Coetzee, Dokes, Thomas, no rematch vs Witherspoon (who beat Holmes IMO) or Weaver and then going along with the IBF so he could avoid tough competition. Holmes not only gets but deserves criticism for his title run.
