Both baseball and boxing have wonderful social histories, yet baseball is the only one of the two sports to have a worthy library. I myself think it is far more important to have a library containing boxing historical archives for research than having a boxing hall of fame. As it is now, there is a wealth of material about the sport of boxing which is out there, but largely remains unconsolidated, undiscovered or untouched. I still like the idea of a hall of fame for a given sport, but the International Boxing Hall of Fame seems to be more as an instrument for making money and political intrigue rather than honoring worthy people in the sport of boxing. Even the Baseball Hall of Fame has too much political intrigue for my tastes. How else can you explain why Marvin Miller, possibly the most influential individual in connection with professional baseball over the last fifty years, hasn't been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame? - Chuck Johnston
Great idea, Chuck. It would take a good amount of money to do, unfortunately. Also, with the advent of the internet, a lot of information is at a researcher's fingertips. A corollary idea is to have one website dedicated to boxing research where old, out-of-[print boxing books and articles are kept for members.
