Why not have the third PTP-Quintana fight now?

Quintana does not deserve a fight with PW right now, and CQ has to earn his way back to being an elite ww, and not the pile of goo he was reduced to in half a round against PW.

Williams is about to fight Martinez who is a better fighter then Quintana.

 

Vasquez retired due to injury... a little different then being starched.

 

Again this weird ESB obsession with calling guys with better resumes "better fighters".

Talent wise it's pretty close between Quintana and Martinez. Both are getting up there in years (both in their thirteenth pro year) and could get old overnight but both are very skilled. They're about equally good opponents for Williams, Martinez probably the more lucrative with his WBC interim belt.

As far as Sergio's biggest win? Everybody knows he beat Cintron. That draw was even bigger bull**** than John vs. Juarez I.

 

First fight was a fluke. PW has nothing to prove against Quitana.

 

i like PW but I would like to see him bury the hatchet, which i think he would do for sure.

 

I'm trying to think of rematches that have been made after a first round KO...

 

The second fight was going a lot like the first fight before Paul caught Quintana. The second fight was less indicative of their match up then the first fight was. Paul was out boxed for 12 rounds. Paul had 12 bad rounds against Quintana, Quintana had one bad round against Paul. There is certainly justification for a rubber match. Not to mention Paul doesn't seem to have gotten much better since their first fight. He looks like the same fighter. I would definitely watch.

I also don't agree that Martinez defines bigger and better things. I don't think he is a better fighter than Quintana nor do I think he presents a tougher challenge. He does however hold a belt.

 

And he's recognized as one of the best fighters in the division Williams is actually campaigning in. With everyone lining up for Floyd and Manny, there's nothing for Paul right now at 147. What does he gain from beating a welterweight who he already knocked out?

Of course Martinez is a bigger fight right now. If Quintana moves up and wins some fights, then this discussion makes sense.

 

Thing is, it's a rubbermatch not a rematch.

I guess to really simplify it this whole debate boils down to whether you feel the 1st round KO erases the comfortable decision win, and which you personally are more willing to write off as a fluke. Obviously there are other factors as well, like Williams improving and entering his prime around this time, Quintana continuing to age, Paul coming out more aggressive, etc. Ultimately, there are just those who are convinced beyond any shadow of doubt by the rematch that a third fight would turn out exactly the same (mostly rabid PW fans) and those who are like "Well, show me..." (most everybody else, haters or no).

I don't think anybody's mind is going to be changed by debate tbh. You either feel one way or the other.
