The thing is though that if Hatton some how managed to beat Cotto now, his reward for doing such would be devalued. People would be questioning how good Cotto actually was in the first place, with two recent losses to fighters who are perhaps technically not that great. Then there's always the line Margo ruined him. Cotto needs to get back on track with a good couple of good wins before Hatton should think about facing him imo, otherwise he wont get his full just deserts should he pull off the unlikely.

Before Cotto started finding it difficult to make the weight (2003-5), I still think he beats Ricky 4 times out of 5, as I said I believe he is a superior fighter. But the Hatton that beat Tszyu would stand a real chance, he was a force of nature that night. At the time, Hatton would probably have beaten the weight-drained Cotto who fought Torres and Malignaggi.

Hatton doesn't handle the welterweight limit well, and Cotto is a very powerful bruiser at that weight. No way Hatton wins this.

Cotto by one-sided beatdown within 7.

At 140 Hatton has a more than good chance but he would suffer at 147.
No way would it be as ridiculously one sided as half of the posters here make out but Cotto is relentless at 147 & would be more than happy to fight in close with Ricky.
I'm a fan of both fighters but you have examples of men who are both excellent at thier respective weights but who dont perform as well at the other mans .
    A nice thought at 143...????

Ive wanted this fight to happen for years!! This fight has the potential to be one of the best fights of the year if not better!!

In an all out war both picking themselves of the canvas, i think Cotto just might land the flusher punches...

Hatton was hurt about three times by Juan Lazcano. He really hasn't looked good at all except against Paulie lately. Cotto murders him, especially at 147.

Love to see you take the kind of punishment he did and stand up and ask for more when you know you can't stop it. Jerk.
