Berto may not be the biggest name at 147 but it's his best chance to get an alphabet title in a higher weightclasss. If he does then he'd be the one and only boxer to ever hold a belt in seven weight divisions. I bet that would be a good sellling point for a fight. Also, Berto didn't look good in his last fight w/ Lou. Thoughts?
I dunno, I don't think alphabet belts mean as much to him as individual names and money fights at this point He has many better options
because he comes into the ring about 160lbs come fight night. If they could meet at 143lbs then it maybe favourable to Pac.
I think b/c people will say this is a step down in comp. But I'd love to see it and let PAC get anther title in anther weight class.
If Bob Arum blackballs Mayweather from the Top Rank fight's.. That might be Floyd's alternative. (After all he does have PBF's WBC title)
for pac, only the best of the best p4p will do from now till retirement. either jmm, floyd or cotto. berto doesnt fit in the picture.
berto would be less harder than shane but pac now is not fighting for belts anymore. he is looking for names that would define his legacy more and give him the highest pay once he retires. having floyd on his resume would be much better than being recognized as a 7 time champion though it wouldn't hurt if he can get a 7th title before fighting floyd.
I see your point but let's put it this way: No one knew who John Ruiz was until Roy Jones fought him. It got people curious to see if a former middleweight champion could get a heavyweight belt. Hence, the fight sold and the glory was aptly showered to the victor. The Pacman is the best fighter in the world right now (i.e. The MJ of boxing). It would be also a good way to see if he can sell a fight with his name alone.
Would Berto's mngmt go for it? I doubt they'd think it's the best idea for him. Good payday, of course, but it could ruin him, too. Besides, they could have the FMJ fight set up for Oct/Nov so why not just go that route and not fight in between? It's not that long a lay off and no unnecessary risks.
