I'm talking about a fight card packed with top names in boxing that could generate over 5 million buys worldwide at $75.00 per PPV purchase... Such as : Vazquez-Marquez IV Pacquiao-Marquez III Calzaghe-Roy Jones Cotto-Mayweather Would you like to see such a card ? And would people really turn it into a major cash cow ?
You would need to pay something like $200 - $300 for a card like that and no one is going to pay that amount except for the wealthy of hardcore boxing fans but I would honestly even though everything i watch now is a free stream
Too expensive and none of those fights, even all alone, can generate the interest to get close 5 mill buys. It would be a wonderful card though.
Well if you multiply $75.00 X 5 000 000 purchases worldwide (US, Europe +, you already raise $375 000 000. Just imagine the publicity earnings you could generate with such a card on top of that ? It's a huge risk but the reward could be out of this world....
You could always switch Mayweather for De La Hoya..but the card would have to be hyped like never before worldwide ! Just like its the Superbowl of boxing !
You would have to fill up a stadium of , at least, over 150, 000 just to make up for lost gate recipes. Then you would have to draw 4x the normal TV audience for the average of one of those fights, on one just one night.
How about we throw in Kimbo Slice vs Shannon Briggs, boxing rules. Get some of those MMA fans to watch too.
Not economical for several reasons but, first, it's unlikely that the number of PPV's would go much in excess of the numbers reached in recent mega-events, therefore the financial risk would largely exceed potential returns. Simply because there is no specific markets for Vazquez-Marquez IV and then another one for Pacquiao-Marquez III, etc. that would add up. Instead, there's a core market, which is large, that would buy individually all the events you've listed, and then there are much smaller segments that would have special interests for specific events. Also, there are good reasons why the prices for PPV events are fixed between $50 and $60, why not higher why not lower. You can improve the quality of the product all you want and think you can jack the price up 30%, the bottom line is you'll lose a lot of buys along the way - price elasticity of demand. Another reason can be explained by some repackaging applications. Soft drink commercials never showcase family-size bottles, marketers would rather show the much smaller and attractive individual cans. Makes perfect sense. If I were a marketer, I would rather push the package with the highest price per ounce. The same way, sell the 4 events individually and the return will be higher than if you had sold them in bulk. Also keeps consumers interested over a longer period of time.
It would be great. I think its economically it does not make sense as stated earlier but how about just some crappy fighters early on and 2 mega fights on a card. That would be very attractive and definately possible. They usually have one big name on an undercard but he is usually fighting somebody very undermatched.
because you would be earning more if you separate the fights..people would still pay to see them separately. Instead of collecting $75 for 4 amazing fights..you can collect $50 x 4 main events...
what we need is a really rich russian to put the fights on just because he wants to see them and have it on free TV with no PPV but i can continue to dream
It depends, are you looking at 5m PPV buys in the US alone, or worldwide? To get 5m, start by putting Ricky Hatton on there (1m+ in UK), and Manny Pacquiao (Filipino hero), but not necessarily against each other. Put on the Cotto/Margarito fight which will bring in the puerto rican and mexican fans, and for the yanks, it would have to be DLH or PBF (but please please please, not against each other ZZzzzzz) So you could have: DLH vs Sturm rematch PBF vs Mosley maybe Cotto vs Margarito Hatton vs Bradley Pacquiao vs Marquez III Haye vs Klitschko
the best card this year for me was the gamboa-jimenez fight. Got a load of talent, future stars and every fight on the card looks like a toss up
